Over The Past Year…

February 28, 2009

I’m not going to give a recap on everything that happened over the past year to try to make up for lost time, but I wanted to give a rundown of the good things- and not so good things- in the world of politics and beyond over the past 12 months.

First, I need to start out by recognizing the historic event from the past fall. Of course, I am talking about the Ole Miss Rebels going to Gainesville and defeating the eventual national champs Florida Gators. The Rebels defeated a top five team on the road for the first time since 1962, when they went undefeated and claim a portion of the National Championship.

Election wise, this obviously wasn’t a good year for Republican faithful. To look on the positive side, conservatives can be happy with a strong field of young conservatives. This includes people like Rep. Gregg Harper, who ran a grassroots campaign and looks to become a future star in the House GOP.

I am sure I will spend a lot of time talking about Travis Childers, who won two elections in the past year. We will be sure to spotlight his votes with Nancy Pelosi. I also hope to see a solid Republican make an early run at his seat in 2010, preferably a Republican from Tupelo. Alan Nunnelee: are you listening?

Roger Wicker has shown that he will be a strong conservative on the Senate side, and won’t be afraid to fight any of Obama’s policies. It’s funny, if you were to ask me who the next Senator from Mississippi would be a couple years ago, I would have said Chip Pickering will replace Thad Cochran. Little did I know that Wicker would replace Trent Lott.

And the best news of 2008 is that the Rebels defeated Mississippi State 45-0 I was married at the Church of Christ in Oxford on May 24 of the past year (and I actually mean this and ain’t just saying it because I know my wife will read this).

Once again, welcome back and come back soon!
