More On Lambus
After doing some quick Internet research on exactly who George Lambus is, I suppose you can say he has a bit of a “colorful” past.
According to WAPT, Lambus sued the Jackson Fire Department in 2002:
…in 2002 sued the Jackson Fire Department, saying he was let go from the training academy because of his age. The Hinds County District Court ruled Lambus wasn’t qualified to be a firefighter in the first place because he hadn’t turned in the proper paperwork to JFD, therefore excluding him from an age discrimination lawsuit. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals later upheld the ruling.
Another interesting story I found out about him is that he wrote a letter to the Clarion-Ledger in 2008 basically tying GOP presidential nominee John McCain with the KKK because of his Carroll County roots:
The Clarion-Ledger • April 9, 2008
Carroll County in Mississippi has been from its inception a hotbed of Klan activity, now if Sen. John McCain’s great-grandfather was once a sheriff there, what does that say? Apples don’t fall far from the tree!
George O. Lambus
Jackson
It seems a bit strange that he goes from writing a letter like that to running on the Republican side in the mayor’s race. I imagine he was hoping to be the only person to qualify, and be guaranteed a slot in the general election. If I were the Republicans, I would make sure this guy is not the nominee (even though the GOP has no chance anyway).
