BREAKING: Melton Disqualified From Mayoral Race

March 17, 2009

City of Jackson Mayor Frank Melton has been disqualified from running for re-election as mayor of Jackson.  The ruling comes courtesy of the Jackson Democratic Municipal Executive Committee.  The issue is over meeting the residency requirement and the DMEC claims Melton filed a Homestead Exemption in Texas, where he and his wife also own a home.

Melton of course denies the claim and plans to fight the decision.  This should set up for some pretty interesting news out of the capital city in the coming days.

If you thought the idea of 18 people running for mayor was interesting, this will sure add to the drama that already exists.  We will be sure to keep an eye on this and let you know what we think of this developing story.
