Hall Back In, Ike Brown TBA
In the past couple weeks; Natalie Chandler has been following the drama that is the state Democrat Party. Her stories have had the headlines ‘Dems hire Sam Hall, Keep Ike Brown off committee,’ followed by ‘Dems fire Sam Hall, Welcome back Ike Brown,’ and now they have decided to, once again, hire Sam Hall as the next Executive Director. Ike Brown, his future is TBA.
Chandler is reporting that the Democrats held an administrative meeting last night, behind closed doors, where they officially hired Sam Hall. Of course nothing is official when the Democrats are involved, but Chandler has said they have put the Hall controversy behind them.
Ike Brown will be the subject of next month’s meeting.
It appears that the highlight of the meeting was not necessarily that the Dems were able to make a decision on Hall; it was that they spent 30 minutes arguing over whether it would be open or closed to the media. Jamie Franks had told the Clarion-Ledger it would be open to the public, and then voted to close the meeting.
Wait a minute. If the meeting that fired Sam Hall and put Ike Brown back on the committee was not legitimate, like Jamie Franks said, then why would they need to meet to rehire Sam Hall? It seems to suggest that in fact, that meeting did have legal weight in which case, Ike Brown would still be on the committee. Also, does the administrative committee have the power to hire people without consent by the full Mississippi Democratic Party?
I supose they were doing it to be safe…I really can’t figure out most of the moves the Democrats make. I believe the story said that he will be “officially” made ED at the next full meeting next month.
I imgaine the Democrats have got (somewhat) smart and realized how bad this is making them look. I would truly be surprised if that stuck with Brown.
