McMillin-Melton Updates

There is a lot of conflicting stories about Police Chief Malcolm McMillin and Mayor Frank Melton parting ways today.

There was initial conflict over whether McMillin was fired or resigned. Melton is saying that he did not ask for McMillin resignation.

Melton has appointed Tyrone Lewis to be the next chief. Lewis must now be confirmed by the city council. It will be interesting to see what happens if Melton loses next month’s election…will Lewis stay on?

There are also some rumors that McMillin will be supporting Marshand Crisler for mayor. Melton says he doesn’t know anything about that, but could that of had something to do with McMillin leaving?
