Here are a handful of stories of interest from the past week.

- Daily Journal has officially updated and moved their website. The original URL, djournal.com will redirect you to the new site nems360.com. It was about time for some updating and it looks good.

- There has been no agreement yet between House and Senate negotiators on a tobacco tax increase. According to State Rep. Toby Barker, the last offer from the House was a $0.57 increase to $0.75. The Senate was holding at a $0.46 increase to $0.64.

- Hot Air blog caught wind of this New York Times story about Ray Mabus and his messy divorce. Like Senators Cochran and Wicker, the conservative blog doesn’t think this is grounds for rejecting his appointment as Secretary of the Navy.

- Lloyd Gray had a very good editorial in the Daily Journal last week where he talks about Haley Barbour’s continued success as governor. This time, he looks at the Senate upholding his veto of the eminent domain bill, although it took a new coalition for Barbour’s victory this time.

- Judge Billy Joe Landrum ordered the Jackson Municipal Democratic Executive Committee to place Mayor Frank Melton back on the ballot.
