House and Senate Agree on Cigarette Tax Hike
April 28, 2009
The Clarion-Ledger is reporting that negotiators for the House and Senate have agreed upon a $0.50 per pack cigarette tax increase, which will raise the tax to $0.68 per pack.
Some of the new revenue will be used to offset the rising costs of car tags.
The bill now goes back to the full legislature for approval, and then to Haley Barbour for his signature. Barbour has indicated he would support the increase this time around.
