May 4, 2009

Jackson State has commissioned the latest Jackson mayoral race poll, and it shows incumbent Frank Melton and former Mayor Harvey Johnson occupying the top two spots, but both well below the 50% mark needed to avoid a runoff.

From WAPT:

Jackson State University released a poll on Friday that puts Mayor Frank Melton at the front of the pack of Democrats, but it’s by a small margin. Those polled were asked who they would vote for if the decision for mayor was held today.

- 17.8 percent of respondents said they would vote for Melton.
- 16.2 percent said they would vote for former Mayor Harvey Johnson.
- 13.1 percent said they would vote for Jackson City Councilman Marshand Crisler.
- 4.2 percent said they would vote for Hinds County tax collector Eddie Fair.
- 3.3 percent said the would vote for State Sen. John Horhn.

But 35 percent of respondents were undecided.
