I Told You So

May 15, 2009

A couple days ago I wrote a piece that boldly stated that Harvey Johnson and his posse would play the race card against Marshand Crisler and boy Mr. Johnson sure didn’t let me down.  Last night at a debate between the two runoff candidates Johnson essentially tried to paint Crisler as a puppet to northeast Jackson businessmen (think rich white men) and Sheriff Malcolm McMillin (think powerful elected white man).  You can read about it here and draw your own conclusion, but I think it’s safe to say Mr. Johnson has resorted to racist tactics to try to defeat his opponent.

Johnson challenged Crisler several times on his ability to be an independent mayor. He noted the support and donations Crisler has received from business leaders in northeast Jackson.

Also:

Johnson also questioned whether Crisler could stand up to his longtime boss and supporter, McMillin.

Then good ole Harvey resorted to saying this classic line:

“Are we letting special interests try to control who will be the next mayor of Jackson?” Johnson asked. “I say no.”

Really Harvey? Can you define special interest for me because it sure sounds like you have your own special interest that we know you will take care of if elected.  This, once again, is the kind of backwards thinking that has Jackson where it is today and Harvey Johnson appears to be the kingpin of the group leading the charge.

In a few days Jackson will have the choice of sending a race baiter like Harvey Johnson back in to office or a guy with a new perspective, Marshand Crisler, who might actually get something accomplished by bringing all of Jackson together rather than just factions of the population.

Harvey is just upset because those special interests left him for Melton, and now they’re with Crisler. He doesn’t have a problem with them, he just wants their money and support for himself. He has Bennie Thompson in his corner, that’s special enough for anyone.

It’s a shame that Harvey Johnson can’t run on his record (whatever that may be – great at ribbon cutting?!?!?!?!). Instead, he has to resort to the race card. It’s a crying shame. He should take some notes from Obama…no race card – wins elections…race card – your credentials go out the window. I’m voting for Crisler.
