Maxine Waters: Shut the Hell Up

May 22, 2009

Maxine Waters, Democratic Congresswoman from California,  sure had a lot of nerve to come to Mississippi yesterday and take shots at Gov. Haley Barbour and the need for people to have affordable housing.  It was so bad that even the Clarion Ledger called her out for making the comments, and we all know where the Clarion Ledger stands politically.

From Waters:

“Affordable housing is most definitely in short supply in Mississippi, and more resources are needed to ensure that all the people still recovering from Hurricane Katrina receive safe, decent and affordable housing. However, for Gov. Barbour to request more funding after the state has already received significant federal funding to help its residents obtain affordable housing reeks of hypocrisy.”

The Clarion Ledger Editorial Board Stance:

It is interesting that U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who represents a state with a $21.3 billion budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, has time to fret about a mere $600 million in federal money in Mississippi to be used rebuilding the Port of Gulfport.

Now I’m going to throw some more facts on you. When it comes to congressional district poverty Ms Waters lays claim to the 3rd most impoverished district in her state, California has 52 by the way. Also, on a national level her district ranks 31st out of 436, only Bennie Thompson in the Mississippi delegation can claim worse.

The idea that Maxine Waters can come here and run her mouth about what she did is laughable. Maybe Maxine should go back to her own district and work on lowering the 22% of people in her district who live in poverty. In the meantime, Maxine Waters just needs to shut the hell up.
