New Statement from Wicker on Sotomayor

June 24, 2009

Sen. Wicker released the following statement yesterday after meeting with Sonia Sotomayor, Obama’s pick to be the next Supreme Court Justice:

“Today, I had a cordial meeting with Judge Sonia Sotomayor. We discussed her judicial philosophy and her record on topics such as the Second Amendment and abortion,” said Sen. Wicker. “I remain deeply concerned by her appointment but will reserve a final judgment until after the Senate has a full, fair, and vigorous debate on her nomination.”

This is the second statement from Wicker on Sotomayor (here is the first). Both have been very cautious, and certainly not enthusiastic. I would expect Wicker to vote against her, and probably against cloture.
