Phil Bryant and the Personhood Initiative
Personhood Mississippi recently sent out a press release to announce that Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant is supporting the personhood initiative. I had previously written about this, known as Initiative 26, which “would amend the Mississippi Constitution to define the word “person” or “persons”, as those terms are used in Article III of the state constitution, to include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning, or the functional equivalent thereof.”

Les Riley, who is heading the campaign, has indicated that they have had success in collecting signatures recently as the initiative gets more publicity. The group needs to collect about 90,000 signatures by January 2010 to have it placed on the 2011 ballot; although they are hoping to have the signatures collected by October which would put the initiative on the 2010 ballot.
