Mississippi Receives Some Less Than Positive Press
I think we are all use to seeing stories about how the Magnolia State is last in all the good polls and first in all the bad ones, but I wanted to spotlight a couple of other stories that don’t follow that direct path.
The first video is from ABC World News Tonight when they profiled a community of 40 in Sunflower County that does not having running water:
Surprising, this story did not pick up a lot of media attention, but on a positive side a Facebook group was started to help raise awareness and money for those without water.
The second video is the trailer for a new film titled ‘Prom Night In Mississippi.’ With the backing of Morgan Freeman, a documentary captures the first integrated prom at Charleston High School (which happens to be Freeman’s hometown).
The film has generated a lot of attention from mainstream media outlets as well as liberal blogs (here and here).
I’ve generally respected what Freeman has done in terms of promoting the state, especially with his promotional commercials for Ole Miss. With this video I can see both sides of the coin: those who say this story needs to be out there and those who say it only draws negative attention to the state.
