Voter ID Fun

Phil Bryant made some appearances this past week and was pushing the voter ID issue and trying to get people to sign a petition to have the matter put on the ballot.  Republicans killed a bill earlier this year that would have also included early voting lumped in with voter ID.  Early voting is tricky and depending on how its run can be a good thing or a really bad idea (ie. vote early vote often).  This has led to Republicans pushing for the stand alone voter ID with no other stipulations added and letting the people of the state have the final say on the matter.  Of course Democrats oppose this idea and Sam Hall has some interesting quotes in this article.

Hall questions the validity of signatures since no ID is required to sign the petition, even though the signatures will be verified by county circuit clerks.  It’s funny how its ok for people who live in cemeteries and people who don’t really exist (see ACORN) can go vote without ID, but God forbid some living and breathing person wants to sign a petition, a petition that will be verified no less.  Democrats cry racism when voter ID comes up. Why? Is it to much to ask for someone to prove who they are when they go vote and when its ok to do that then sure make people ID themselves when they sign petitions.  I don’t see how that disenfranchises anybody but the dead people and comic book characters that show up to the polls to vote.  I think we all know the real reason Democrats so vehemently oppose voter ID.

Brett Favre vol. 3

Mississippian Brett Favre has made his glorious return to the NFL, again.  I know it’s not really politically related, but it’s been a slow news week and this was a big story this past week.  I say if the man wants to play let him play and leave him alone.  I know he has waffled alot, but as long as his new teammates can accept him then I don’t see any problem with it.  As a Mississippian I wish him the best of luck and hope that he experiences great success for however long he wants to keep playing.

Travis Childers Makes This To Easy

The man just makes this way to easy to poke fun at him on a weekly basis.  This week was especially great and I could have probably used this whole post to talk about Childers, but I’ll stick to one topic this week.  Mr. Childers finally came out of hiding this week to hold a town hall meeting, sort of.  Hidden in his office somewhere he conducted a tele-town hall over the phone discussing the healthcare reform bill.  It was nice to see him reluctantly have to oppose the bill in its current form even though you can tell he really does not want to.  He has no choice though as his support would equal re-election suicide next year in his district.

The thing I want to talk about though is what a coward he is from ducking a public forum like many others have held on this bill.  When you are an elected official in a position such as his you are a public figure and should be expected to be out in public and not locked away in your office somewhere hiding from your constituents.  I don’t care if you are a Republican or a Democrat it is cowardly to not look the people you represent in the eye and tell them how you plan to vote on such a hot button issue.  Mr. Childers and any other elected official who choose to hide from the people he/she works for is nothing more than a coward in my book.
