Voter ID Vote Not Likely in 2010

With an October 7th deadline for getting enough verified signatures to put the issue to a vote next November it does not appear the issue will have a chance to make it to the polls till 2011 when statewide elections are held.  Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann announced today that only about 19,000 of the needed 90,000 have been verified with his office.

I see this as only a short term hurdle to actually getting the issue to the ballot so Mississippians can chime in with the ultimate decision on the matter.  Sure it would have been great to have it on the ballot in 2010, but I don’t see this as a win or loss for those who oppose or support it.  I believe we will see it on the ballot in 2011 and I ultimately believe that the voters in this state will pass the measure.
