I Guess We Have Something Roger Wicker and Harry Reid Agree On

September 23, 2009

Sen. Wicker released this statement regarding the impact the proposed healthcare legislation would have on Mississippi:

I agree with Majority Leader Reid’s assessment that the Senate Finance Committee bill will further burden already cash-strapped states. I will not vote for a health care reform bill unless it protects Mississippi. The two bills currently being considered in the Senate would only add to Mississippi’s Medicaid troubles. We must find a way to fix the parts of our system that are not working while still maintaining the parts that are.

Thats good to hear. First to fix medicaid President Obama needs to appoint a head of Medicare and Medicaid, which he has still not done. How is it that one of the biggest Insurance companies in the nation doesn’t have a CEO? Humana would be sinking. And if there is so much waste and abuse in the system why don’t they start cleaning that up now instead of trying to make it sound like they need a bill to do it.

I read today about a Senator being willing to lose his seat to vote for the health-insurance reform. “Integrity,” you might say, or “betrayal” (of his constituents). But I think this misses the point–meaning the role of the US Senate as a check on the House (and us).
