Will Links To Pelosi Hurt Mississippi Democrats?
A recent Politico story looks at the campaign by some Republicans who are trying to tie there opponent with the unpopular Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Gene Taylor, who is among the safest Blue Dogs in the country, said he didn’t think this strategy would work. It is true it most likely will not work Taylor. Despite voting for Nancy Pelosi the past two terms, Taylor has largely been able to distance himself from her and the party.
However, I think it is a different story with First District Rep. Travis Childers. Childers is in the middle of this first full term, and does not have the independent, conservative credentials built up like Taylor. Some may point to attempts to try to paint Childers with Barack Obama- and even his radical minister Jeremiah Wright in 2008, but I would say that’s a completely different story. Without a question, linking Childers to Wright was a stretch. Linking Childers to the woman he voted to make Speaker of the House is not. Childers can brag about his votes where he opposed Pelosi, but she would never be Speaker of the House and able to pass cap-and-trade or healthcare legislation if it wasn’t for Blue Dogs like Childers.
I think voters will remember that. That said, Alan Nunnelee, or whoever is the GOP nominee, will certainly need to deliver a clear, conservative message beyond Childers’ ties to Pelosi (including money) and other liberals.
Pelosi is the least of Chicken Childers problems. Never have I felt so discouraged, unrepresented and down right angry with an elected official from my state. This man is a coward and how he was elected blows me away. This summer he did everything but take a midnight train out of town to avoid speaking to his constituents. Mr. Childers if you read this blog you make me remember why people detest politicians. You are making decisions for people you will not even meet with. I speak to other people about you in Northern Mississippi and already we are looking forward to working for Alan Nunnelee. When I think of Travis Childers I think of a follower chasing after someone to protect him[Pelosi]. We all know she tells you how to vote. Funny thing, she will always be elected and I PRAY you will not.
