Why People Hate Unions

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a fan of labor unions and stories like this one only make me feel better about my opposition.  I can understand unions want to get higher wages for their workers, but this situation takes it a little to far.  The fact that the local Teamsters union would encourage school bus drivers to go on strike in Hinds, Madison and Yazoo counties smack dab in the middle of the school year is outrageous.  This “at all cost” attitude takes it too far when you consider how many thousands of kids will be left looking for rides to school.  Their parents depend on this mode of transportation to get their kids back and forth from school everyday.  It just goes to further illustrate how cutthroat and heartless unions can be.  Why not do this in the summer or during winter break?  Oh thats right, the unions need to use the kids as leverage at the bargaining table.

The Messiah Wins the Nobel Peace Prize, but for what

The Hope Train has apparently pulled into Oslo, Norway this week as President Obama has just been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on the grounds of what he might do and not what he has done.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama’s calls for peace and cooperation but recognized initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

So he gets a Nobel Peace Prize for talking a good game.  The facts don’t lie, he has not eased tensions in regards to Muslim nations and Americans,  he has accomplished nothing in regards to reducing nuclear arms and he and his liberal majority in the House and Senate have not been able to pass a climate change bill despite a large majority.  The Nobel Committee has apparently been drunk off the Hope juice that so many Americans fell for in 2008.

Travis, Travis, Travis

I wonder if Travis Childers will actually ever come off that fence he loves sitting on.  This week he again affirmed his spot on that fence by voting for and against the removal of Charlie Rangel from his top spot on the House Ways and Means Committee.  Hopefully, like humpty dumpty he will eventually have a great fall (2010 Election?).
