Franks: I Can’t Wait For Barbour’s Last Two Years To End
Newt Gingrich was in Jackson yesterday as part of his “real jobs summit” tour. This is what state Democrat Party Chairman Jamie Franks had to say about Gingrich and his proposals:
“It’s strange that the Republicans have to reach back to the 1990s to pick out their plan for improving our future. They spent the last decade pushing the philosophy of tax cuts and deregulation and nothing else, and we’ve got almost double-digit unemployment in Mississippi for all their effort. What Gingrich needs to do is get the founder of the Contract With America, Haley Barbour, to get Mississippi straightened out. With all the cuts he’s planning for kids’ education I can’t wait for Barbour’s last two years to end.”
What is strange to me is just how willing the state Democrat Party is to stand up for everything Barack Obama says or does. Their blog features daily stories about the need for Obama’s brand of healthcare reform. They even call out Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran for opposing it, yet remain silent to the fact that two-thirds of the Democrat delegation from Mississippi also opposes it.
Of course, Gene Taylor and Travis Childers need to stand for re-election. Travis Childers’ victory is probably the greatest electoral success for Mississippi Democrats in at least 20 years…you would think they would follow his model- not Obama’s.
I dread Barbour’s last two years ending. I think he has been a great for our state. Musgrove was a disaster. Barbour has been bold and pruductive for a state that usually tops the list for bad or ranks last for good. During the Katrina distaster he was great. I was proud of him and our state for taking care of business. I just hope senator is somewhere in his future.
