HBCU Czar: Money Is Wrong Reason For Merger
Well, he’s not technically one of President Obama’s czar. John Wilson, Jr., who is the executive director of Obama’s HBCU initiative, was in Jackson today and said that he opposed the merger proposals put in place by Haley Barbour.
However, Wilson does not oppose mergers just because he opposes mergers in general as many on the Democrat side appear to do. Rather, he said the motivation should be “greatness” and not “financial.” He said if a merger would appear to make one larger university greater than several single universities, he would support it.
He also said that the White House will not take a formal position on the merger proposals.
