Franks In 2007: We Brought Toyota To Northeast Mississippi

December 14, 2009

Below is Jamie Franks’ Neshoba County Fair speech from 2007 (thanks Cotton Mouth Blog) when he was the Democrat candidate for Lt. Governor. Fast forward to about the 5-minute mark and you will begin to hear Franks speak about Toyota’s (then) recent decision to locate in Northeast Mississippi.

Franks would go on to say: “We brought Toyota to Northeast Mississippi and I’m proud to have been a part of that.” Based on those words, you would think Franks had something to do with Toyota’s decision, and I think it is fair to say thought it was a good idea.

Two-and-half years later Franks is now the Democrat state party chairman, and takes a much dimmer view of Toyota when he said this: “Today, we’re spending tens of millions of tax dollars on debt services for Toyota, and we have not one job to show for it.”

I think it would be good to know why Franks has had such a change of heart. Earlier today, Paul Gallo dug up this information and included it in the show’s daily e-mail. He will speak with Haley Barbour about the inconsistency tomorrow.

Excellent find by Gallo. Now we know why Democrats don’t issue to many press releases.

Good stuff, but I doubt this matters much as Franks is essentially insignificant IMO.

Not to mention all the money Toyota is currently paying into the local schools. Assuming Franks doesn’t send his children to private schools, his own children are benefiting from Toyota as we speak. But he wants to attack the Governor so that doesn’t matter. The truth is, the DNC wanted to take a swipe at Haley Barbour and the DNC pays the bills for the Mississippi Democratic Party. When you pay the piper, you call the tune.

What are you thinking?
