State Reps For Obamacare

December 16, 2009

Three state Representatives spoke at a rally held at the Jackson Medical Mall in support of healthcare legislation currently pending in Congress. The event was organized by a new group called Mississippians for Health Care Reform.

State Reps. Steve Holland (D-Plantersville), Alyce Clark (D-Jackson), and Credell Calhoun (D-Jackson) spoke during the event.

Holland said there is a lot of “crazy talk going on in Washington” and complained about what he called too many “naysayers” in the state. The speakers suggested those in attendance contact their Congressmen to let them know they support the proposed legislation.

Five of the six members of Mississippi’s Congressional delegation oppose the bill, including two Democrats- Travis Childers and Gene Taylor. Bennie Thompson is the lone supporter. The Mississippi Democrat Party and its chairman- Jamie Franks- have also strongly pushed for the legislation.
