Childers Had Other Options

December 30, 2009

Travis Childers met with the Daily Journal yesterday and the conversation centered around the upcoming 2010 election battle. As the story details, Childers support for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House will be a theme we will hear a lot of during the campaign. But Childers reason for voting for the San Francisco liberal may be a little off.

Childers said he voted for Pelosi because he had two options- Pelosi or GOP Leader John Boehner. Childers pointed out that he wasn’t going to vote for the leader of a party who invested millions in defeating him- and that point is well taken.

However, Childers had more than those two options. One way to go was to vote present, which essentially means you’re taking a pass. That is what former Mississippi Rep. Mike Parker did when he was still a Democrat. He could also cast a protest vote for someone else. Before Democrats regained control of Congress, Gene Taylor had voted for Jack Murtha rather than Pelosi. (Ironically, Murtha would soon become an anti-war hero of the left). Childers could have offered up someone more acceptable- such as Taylor.

Childers also credited Pelosi with what he called “valuable committee” assignments which will benefit the district.

That tells me he is as petty as the rest. To begin with that is politics. Next I would like to remind Senor Chicken Childers that he put himself on the path to defeat may I remind him of TARP.
