Henry Ross Kicks Off Campaign
February 3, 2010

After making note of the lack of website for the Henry Ross campaign in the notebook this morning, I got word that the campaign site is nearing completion. You can check it out at HenryRossForCongress.com.
And for what it’s worth, it looks great and has a lot of good information on there.

Does anyone know the relation between Henry and Charlie Ross? They are both from Europa so I assume they are related.
Thanks
I attended the kick off in Hernando, Ross was great at summarizing the state of the union now. He spoke boldly about the ills of America. I did not hear what his plan of action was to solve this mess. Answers/ Course of Action/ That what I am looking for.
Hey Amber you should take Brett’s advice and check out the web site. There is alot of substance on there about a plan of action. Kick off speeches typically are for motivational purposes anyways.
Hey Michael, Ross had a chance to win me over and failed miserably. If I wanted to be motivated I would by a Chicken Soup For The Soul book. I want common sense solutions. Ross if it bennifited MS-01 but added to the deficit would you vote for it? That is what I wanted to know?

Amber here is the answer to your question. I was not there so I did not hear the man’s speech. I was simply stating that his web site has alot of depth to it.
Michael his web site is fine but to say you want to surge federal revenue to lower the deficit means what? That is another republican party line. Tell me what he sees as a course of action to create jobs and build industry. How do we compete with China and their slave labor? Repeal NAFTA? We are in debt up to our eyeballs and then some. My husband builds special machines to produce various products, nine time out of ten they are shipped abroad. How does a kid with a high school diploma make it today? You do know college is not for everyone? We need answers? America is as close to falling in the crapper as I can ever remember in our history. Ross will be a fine candidate but I am telling you he needs to distinguish himself from Chicken Childers. He would say the samethings as Ross did Tuesday. My husband and I will vote for Ross if he is the candidate but I would like to know that he has some answers to the vast problems we face. To say we need to surge revenues is like me saying that in our home we need to increase income. How? Yes I agree with Ross that the morals of America are in trouble. What are you going to do to change it?
Amber,
I can understand your frustration at not hearing specifics in Ross’s initial speech; but generally an announcement speech is to introduce the candidate to the public and let them know who he is and what he stands for. It is very obvious that Ross is a Federalist. He uses the constitution as a bible for making his decisions. He strongly feels positive about the future of our country if we return to a constitutional government. That means smaller government, lower taxes, less federal government control and more responsibility given to the state governments. I heard his speach four times and feel that his three pillar approach is the answer we are looking for in our leadership. Surging federal revenues happen naturally when the economy is strong – under the current direction this will not happen and we will get deeper and deeper into this recession. In Columbus he opened the floor to questions, and I wish that you had been there so you could have asked him those questions. His approach to a baseline freeze on spending at the level before the original stimulus package is a good start. Eliminating the current supreme court rulings on prayer in schools etc and other such rulings could be done and Ross was clear that he intends to introduce meassures, legislation, and personal lobbying to make sure these changes are made. Putting God back in our schools is a good way to start the process of building strong moral characther in our children. Lower taxes stimulate business and will jump start the economy creating jobs. I know that he will agree with you about the fact that not all children should go onto college and he does have a plan for that. Some of your concerns are with state and local govenments but why don’t you blog on Henry Ross’s site and ask him your questions rather than complaining on this site. You won’t get your answers here. Go to the man himself.
I am not a prophet but between Nunnelee, Ross, and maybe McGlowan (we are all on pins and needles) I forsee another 10 months of bickering about how this person or that person can solve all of my problems. All the while the man behind the curtian ,the great Oz, controls everyone of them. I did take the time to read the Nunnelee website as well as the Ross website and I challenge any of you to find the difference between the candidates without slinging mud at either one. The only thing I can tell you for certian is that they are “birds of a feather”. There are NO new ideas whatsoever just regurgitated rhetoric. I am glad some of you seem passionate about these candidates but I have read anything to get me excited at all.
I will say one thing about the Ross site I am a born agian believer in Jesus Christ but if you let organized prayer in school that must include Muslim prayer as well. So I say let well enough alone!
Charlotte,
I contacted Henry Ross. I gave him my cell number, email address, and a DNA sample still no response. I guess he does not have all these plans that you say he has. Complaining, that crossed the line.
I complain on this site all the time and get no where. Don’t know what the answers are. I think you will get an answer from Ross though. Let me know.
Henry Ross has run for elective office almost as many times as Shawn O’Hara. He has had failed runs for the Eupora Board of Alderman, State Representative, and State Senator. He was appointed Circuit Judge by Governor Fordice to fill an unexpired term and was soundly beaten when he ran for a full term. After four failed tries for elective office, he was elected Mayor of Eupora in a plurality vote. One of his first official acts was an attempt to remove a POW-MIA flag that had flown at the city hall since the Vietnam War. Needless to say, the VFW was greatly offended. Another of his crazy ideas was to try and implement a zoning ordinance that would make the one in Madison look mild in comparison. He may claim to be anti-government, but his zoning ordinance would have severe intrusion on private property rights. The town board actually passed the ordinance, and then had to rescind it after a great public outcry. He made such a mess of things, that the previous mayor, who had retired, came out of retirement, ran and beat Ross, with Ross finishing third in a four man race. He was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, and is living off money he inherited from his parents. Unless I miss my guess, he will not win here in Webster County. I am very unexcited by the Republican candidates. I think this is the year to reclaim the First Congressional District, but all the candidates seem flawed. I deeply fear that this will lead to Childers being re-elected.
You have painted an unflattering picture. I was okay with Ross before, not so sure now. I contacted Ross last Thursday and he has still has not answered any question that I sent him. I am in his district and thought he would answer something. I guess I just end up on his email list.
Jason,
I am not so sure on all of the facts of what you state. I do know Henry was a teenager when he ran for alderman and when he ran for the legislature it was as a GOP in an area that voted heavily democrat during those days. You’ve pointed out that your unhappy about other canidates too. I look forward to reading what you have to say about them and laid out as friendly as you did for Henry. Alan, has quite a bit against him. I saw this today: http://yallpolitics.com/index.php/yp/post/21294/. I look forward to you writing about Angela’s anti-gun rights statement and the score of youtubes from her days on foxnews. Surely, you’ll find much negative about her out there too.
Vince, I have voted Republican all of my life. I remember when the party could never find a viable candidate to run against Jamie Whitten, but I would still vote for the Republican candidate because of my distaste for the Democrats and their policies. That is why the current field of candidates distresses me so much. I don’t think any of the candidates can beat Childers. I fear that he will be our Gene Taylor, where every election, the Republicans think they should beat him, but never do. Everything I said about Ross is true. If you have any doubts, go read back issues of the Webster-Progress Times or the City of Eupora board minutes. When Ross ran for the House and Senate, the districts where he ran were voting for Jack Reed, and Kirk Fordice, so you are wrong in saying the districts would not vote for Republicans.
As to Nunnelee, I attended one of his functions a few months ago. I found him to have absolutely no charisma. He is dull and very boring. He has served in the State Senate for 15 years, with no major accomplishment. He may be chairman of the appropriations committee, but he is nothing but a lap dog for Phil Bryant. He is chairman in name only. I don’t see educators or anyone else involved in state government voting for him in November. Also, the sheriffs, circuit and chancery clerks, supervisors, tax assessors, district attorneys and their assistants, and the circuit and chancery judges, and all the friends, familes, and those that listen to them, will not support Nunnellee since he single-handedly killed legislation that would have given them a pay raise, back before the economy tanked.
Angela McGlowan is a novelty candidate. Her gun control views will kill her. I am really not sure what her true political colors are; I am fearful that she is an attention seeker, who is getting more attention than she deserves by being the conservative black woman. A white female with the same credentials would be getting no attention.
In summary, the Republicans have done a poor job of candidate recruitment. Childers and his group are intelligent enough to know all the things about the candidates that I have posted and will exploit them in November. State Senators Gary Jackson, Terry Brown, former Tupelo Mayor Glen McCullough, and former Supreme Justice Kay Cobb are just a few that I can think of who would be better candidates in November.
To be fair, hats off to Mr. Ross for trying multiple times to be an elected public servant. His perseverance over a lifetime shows that his intentions are in the right place. Putting your name out in public to run for office and then to lose does show character. These election losses decades ago were difficult and he has had many accomplishments since then. He has displayed resilience.
As for attacking him personally on being raised with a silver spoon, it is misguided to criticize someone who lost both their parents in less than a month. Whatever little amounts of money he may have earned by working as a small town attorney or inherited pales in comparison to losing both of your parents in a span of days.
The POW/MIA flag actually never came down and you know that. It was simply moved to the Community Center where it is still proudly displayed. Jason, Bear in mind that when the flag was commemorated and moved to a standalone flag pole at the Community center, Mr. Ross was not only mayor, but the commanding officer of a Navy Reserve unit in New Orleans. Suggesting he is anti-veterans is just foolish. He is the only candidate who is a veteran, an officer, served on active duty or the reserves. He retired at Commander, a difficult feat in the JAG Corps. You know all of these facts, you are from Webster County.
It is evident Henry wants to serve for the right reasons. Reflecting back, he has taken hard hits in the past and still has a yearning to serve and that is commendable. Unlike the others in the race there are no disparities in his record. Alan has a budget crisis of historic proportions on his hands, yet he is spending his time running for a higher office? He claims to be a fiscal conservative, but has spent $130,000 on his own campaign already when no candidates were even in the race!? Why can’t he dedicate himself to the legislature and solve our budget problems before running for higher office? Why does he choose to waiver on taxes? Angela moves back to Oxford and hits the campaign circuit while simultaneously signing autographs and publicly promoting her book. Her views on the Second Amendment serve as evidence that as a political pundit she lacks the judgment to even make the right stance on an emotionally charged issue in her home state. But, on the campaign trail she is the candidate of gun rights. How would she represent us in Congress if she can’t even figure out Mississippians belief on guns? If something doesn’t change, we may be stuck with Childers forever. Let’s hope all the candidates will put it together and be viable in November.
Amber,
I am not sure how old you are but you sound fairly young. Ross is not running for president love. Seems to me that the answers you seek are for a presidential candidate. Do you truly understand what a district rep for congress does?
Sherisa,
The questions I wanted answered were about statements made by Ross in Hernando and on his web site.My questions are very on point and have nothing to do with my age but more to do with a candidate that was pandering. You are very late to this discussion and are coming at me in an inappropriate manner. If you wanted to reply to me you do it at the comment above. I guess you are a senior citizen and did not know that.
