Alan Nunnelee, Mike Huckabee, and Houston Nutt
Alan Nunnelee’s fundraiser featuring Mike Huckabee received a great deal of attention last week, both on the blogs and in the traditional media. I have since found out some interesting information that you might not have heard. That night, Nunnelee and Huckabee headed down Highway 6 to a private fundraiser for Huck PAC (Mike Huckabee’s fundraising arm) in Oxford. Joining the duo was another major player- Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt.
Here is the invite:

While there is no mention of Nunnelee on the invite (and as I said the money was not being raised for his campaign), he said this about joining Huckabee and Nutt in Oxford:
I also want thank Governor Huckabee and Coach Houston Nutt for allowing me to accompanying them in Oxford at a reception hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Walker Swaney and the Lafayatte County Republican Party. It gave me yet another opportunity to meet with voters and talk to them about my record on growing businesses, lowering taxes, and respecting the right to life. I’ve been encouraged by the response and enthusiasm of people as I talk about the solutions to problems we are facing in our state and nation.
A couple interesting things about this. The first is the Arkansas angle. Nutt was the head coach at Arkansas during most of Huckabee’s tenure as governor of the Natural State. Huckabee, as far as I know, left the governor’s mansion still popular. As far as Nutt goes, he may be the only person who can lose to Blanche Lincoln.
Another interesting thing is college ties. Nunnelee is a Mississippi State graduate. Starkville is in the Third District. It’s fair to say that the First District is the ‘Ole Miss district.’ I don’t know if Nutt would hold a public event for Nunnelee (or anyone), but his support is a good thing for Nunnelee in the First District.
