Tuesday Election Notebook
MS-01: The Daily Mississippian (the student newspaper at Ole Miss) has a recap of Judge Joe Brown’s visit to Oxford on Friday to campaign for Angela McGlowan.
MS-01: The DCCC was not pleased with the answer Alan Nunnelee gave to a WCBI reporter regarding what to do about social security. They are trying to hit Nunnelee for a proposal by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) that included privatizing social security as a way to balance the budget.
MS-01: The Tate County Democrat calls Henry Ross, Alan Nunnelee, and Angela McGlowan “three good replacements,” preferring either of the Republicans over Travis Childers in an editorial today.
MS-01: Angela McGlowan will be on the Gallo show Thursday at 7 a.m.
MS-01: Travis Childers, who supported the stimulus bill last winter, visited a stimulus project in Senatobia last week, and this is what was reported about his visit: “He told those present that only one quarter of the funds allocated to the state had been put in place, including the $10.5 million ARRA dollars helping finance the Highway 51 project. The total cost for this phase of the project is approximately $17 million. In Mississippi, Childers said that ARRA funds had improved over 300 miles of roads and 20 bridges, and created or sustained $10 million payroll dollars.”
MS-04: Gene Taylor will be hosting a town hall meeting at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville on Monday from 1:30 to 3. Likely topics include healthcare, national defense, and community college funding.
MS-04: Gene Taylor’s office made clear that he opposes the new healthcare proposal now being pushed by Obama: “He still is opposed to the health care bill and will remain opposed to it.”
Ole Miss: Students are voting today on whether to proceed with the development of a new mascot. There has been some controversy and confusion with this. First, this is not a vote on a new mascot- just on whether or not students want the administration to proceed with the development of a mascot and be directly involved in the process. Voting ‘No’ doesn’t necessarily mean the administration won’t proceed any further. At this time, we don’t know what idea the administrations/ students will come up with for a new mascot. I imagine there will be some type of vote on that in the future, but not today. The DM tried to explain everything as best as they could.

Not only does judge Joe Brown not vote in District 1 he does not even live in the state of Mississippi so why should he have an input on who we have representing us?
Heck he could have run for the seat just as McGlowan is just look at how much they have in common: 1. Race
2. Both have worked in T.V.
3. Both think all residence of Guntown should be closely watched by the Feds
4. Both think that we care what Judge Joe Brown thinks
5. Both think that we are going to be awed by TV personalities
6. Neither have a clue as to what kind of people live in Dist. 1
7. Neither care as to what kind of people live in Dist. 1 because
8 .Neither live in Dist. 1
9. Neither live in Mississippi
10. They both think if they say it we will believe it.
Hype: when I saw your list taking someone to task for being a national T.V. personality who doesn’t live in the district or the state but thinks he can swoop in to campaign and somehow people care about what he thinks–I thought for sure you were talking about Mike Huckabee campaigning for Alan Nunnelee last week.
Matt thanks I forgot about that. My mistake. Lets not forget that we also need to consult our local football coach as to who to vote for as well.
I heard McGlowan is bring Morgan Freeman in next. After all he said “Reform in Mississippi is hard because the base stock of this state is a mule-headed bunch of farmers”. I guess we all know where she got her information about the populis of Dist. 1.
I guess on this point Ross is the only innocent party.
Plus 1 for Ross.
I am starting to think Fr. Freeman had it right. Just look at Mrs. McGlowan for example. She is an outspoken African-American woman and she was attacked before she announced her candidacy. It is shameful that some people will not let go of there sterotypes. I am proud of Mrs. McGlowan for having the courage to run. I am sure that she knew the attacks would come and she chose to stand up for north MS anyway. I am a proud supporter of Mrs. McGlowan and I would be honored for her to be my Represenative. She knows the hearts of the people of MS 1 if you ever get the chance to meet her you will agree I am sure. As for comments like these they are just haters. I say to Mrs. McGlowan you go girl and Gods speed.
RE: MS-04….Gene Taylor is so worried that his time may be limited that he is putting out press releases that he STILL is against THE Healthcare Bill….BUT, now listen people…..Gene Taylor has NEVER, NEVER, NEVER said that he is against nationalize healthcare; in fact, when asked at a townhall meeting, he dodged the question…he is more interested in showing HIS slides than “talking to his constituents”.
Got some news for you all about this snake in the grass…during that Nov. vote in the U.S. House on Healthcare, Taylor had 2 chances to help kill that bill before the final vote, and he voted WITH THE DEMOCRATS both times. Now, why would someone who is against THE HEALTHCARE BILL as he so adamantly claims NOT try to help get that nasty booger killed BEFORE the final vote? WHY? Because he knows the media won’t report the “in-between votes”—-the votes of his party loyalty. He knows they will only report the FINAL VOTE…he does this sneaky stuff all the time. I
Finally, IF REPUBLICANS in the 4th District…yes, I said Republicans, would QUIT VOTING FOR TAYLOR, he would have to go to his House in Bay St. Louis, not the U.S. House.
