Bryant: Veto Will Be Sustained
Haley Barbour’s perfect record of having veto’s sustained looks like it will hold up with his veto of SB 2688, which had been expected for several days. Barbour vetoed the budget restoration bill- favored by Democrats and a few Republicans- saying it spent too much from the reserves and ineffectively divided funds among agencies.

Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant predicted that the veto will be sustained, and said it is his intention to move on to SB 2495. You can learn more about this bill at MississippiVotes.org. Bryant praised the bill, saying, “This bipartisan compromise allocates nearly $40 million to restore cuts made to education. It also places a total of $16 million, including $14 million that we did not anticipate receiving, to the Department of Corrections. In all, SB 2495 restores $82 million of cuts made to state agencies for FY 10.”
