Wednesday Election Notebook

February 24, 2010

MS-01: From the same people who put the Gallo interview on YouTube, a new clip has been posted from a recent controversy where Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) apparently laughed when an audience member asked if they should start by saying the pledge of allegiance. What does this have to with our race? As The Real McGlowan pointed out, Angela McGlowan once made a campaign donation to Becerra.

MS-01: Last Tuesday, Henry Ross was in Jackson to attend the rally where signatures were delivered on the Personhood amendment.

MS-01: According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Blue Dog Democrats did better than the average fundraiser in 2009. For comparison, Travis Childers raised $822,000 in 2009 which is higher than the Blue Dog average ($767,000) and the overall Dem average ($709,000).

MS-01: As has been mentioned, McGlowan will be on Gallo starting at 7:05 tomorrow morning. Here is the promo from Gallo: Angela McGlowan, Republican candidate for First Congressional District: Shes InDaHouse to take calls and answer questions about her bumpy start as a political candidate. McGlowans response to a Second Amendment question on gun rights, that I asked during her last appearance, started a firestorm from Mississippi to Washington.

MS-04: In an AP article looking at healthcare on the eve of the so-called bipartisan summit, Rep. Gene Taylor said this about talk radio and their influence: “Half the radio stations in my district are talk radio, and they’re talking all day long about this. And while they have their point of view, they’re giving people enough information to make them against it.”

2010 Congress: In an interview with National Journal, Haley Barbour explains why 2010 looks to be a better year for Republicans then 1994. That year, of course, Republicans swept all elections becoming the majority in the House and Senate for the first time in 40 years.

2011 Gov: Pearl River County supervisor Hudson Holliday is a longshot to win the GOP primary in about a year and a half, but he is not giving up. In a recent feature in the Picayune Item, he talks about being an outsider, his ideas, and plans to expand his name ID.

Ole Miss: Students voted to support working with the administration toward the development of a new mascot yesterday by about a 3-1 margin. I’m not even going to mention the stupid rumors that the national media picked up on- either in an attempt to make Ole Miss look bad or because they are idiots (or both).
