First It Was Racist, Now It’s Fascist

March 23, 2010

Joe Atkins, a professor in the School of Journalism at Ole Miss, was a featured guest columnist for the Clarion-Ledger this Sunday and compared conservative thinkers and Tea Party participants to Fascist, in the mold of Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

Keep in mind this guy teaches journalism students at a state-run institution and is paid by you the taxpayer.  If you did not believe before that extremists are in our schools then look no further than Mr. Atkins and his belief that people who voice their First Amendment right by disagreeing with a liberal agenda geared toward socialism are racist and comparable to fine upstanding world citizens like Hitler and Mussolini.

Mr. Atkins goes so far as to cite the rise in Ku Klux Klan activity in Mississippi as evidence of the rise in fascism in our state.  I’ll go ahead and clear this up for you and put this into the terms he would actually like to use, but beats around the bush and paints a very foggy picture.  White people from Mississippi who dare protest against a liberal social agenda are racists and likely associated with the KKK and share the views of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini who hated Jews.  In essence, I believe this is what Mr. Atkins is trying to say with his piece.

If he believes that the Tea Party Groups are fascist, I wonder what he considers himself as someone who does not believe in the freedom to be an opposite voice of reason or the freedom to stand up to your government.

On an interesting note, maybe Mr. Atkins overlooked the fact that Mussolini, a founder of Fascism, was a supporter of social welfare as a part of his social revolution.  Now we all know it is pretty obvious that this is exactly what tea partiers and other protesters are arguing and fighting against and not for.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I see this piece as just another attempt for some liberal in the media with an audience to try and paint those with an opposition view as the most hideous thing they can think of at the time.  It all started with being a racist because Obama was black and has further evolved into thinking such as Mr. Atkins’ that these protesters are fascist.  The characterizations are tiring and anyone with any actual common sense understands that these people are not as radical as the liberals in this country would like you to believe.  These people go to work and raise their families every day and do not sit around in dark smoky rooms plotting the overthrow of the government.  They are people with an opinion just like Mr. Atkins, who just happened to cast the stone.

This facist just returned from Washington DC where I and all the facists around me spent three days of prayer for guidance to our lawmakers as they voted on the Health Care Bill. The protest was
well attended and very peaceful except for a few well positioned
nasties. I will not give up the fight and libs may have won this
battle but I guarantee that they will loose the war. Just pray
that we don’t loose our country in the meantime. My vote this June and then again in November will be for a candidate who truly understands the constitution and what needs to be done to get back
to the values on which our country was founded. Every member of that
House needs to go. VOTE THEM OUT!!!!!!!

He needs to learn what a fascist is. Hitler, Mussolini were more akin to Woodrow Wilson and his thinking than Stalin was to FDR. But FDR did have similarities with Hitler.

In level of government control Hitler and Mussolini were was slightly less than totalitarians like Stalin and Mao, but what similarities do Tea Parties have with Nazis? Get a life dopey Professor

    What were those economic policies?

    Mussolini:

    Nationalized Banks

“Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power”

    Hitler:

He suspended the gold standard, embarked on huge public works programs like Autobahns, protected industry from foreign competition, expanded credit, instituted jobs programs, bullied the private sector on prices and production decisions, vastly expanded the military, enforced capital controls, instituted family planning, penalized smoking, brought about national health care and unemployment insurance, imposed education standards, and eventually ran huge deficits.

The Nazi interventionist program was essential to the regime’s rejection of the market economy and its embrace of socialism in one country.

What I hear is the chairman of the Journalism Department is just as bad! It used to be a great journalism school….lots of significant, award-winners came out of there in the past but this crowd is beyond repair. Can you find the number to the Chancellor’s office; the Dean of Academics; the chairman of the IHL?……send your complaints so they know this kind of irresponsible, hate-filled commentary is not wise for an employee on a government payroll!

    Biloxi Conservative,

You know what you just help me realize follow me here … Hitler developed the autobahn. When Eisenhower was in Germany he saw the strategic military benefit of a connected interstate system. When Eisenhower became president he championed the interstate system. Eisenhower was a facist!

And we wonder why the media is so unbalanced! It is no wonder with idots like this guy at the helm – teaching our college journalism students nothing but crap. Unfortunately our fight for freedom and
constitutional government allows this professor (and I use that term
loosely)the freedom to speak. God bless America!

Perhaps he would prefer to live in a facist country where he would be told what to teach. I will be happy to spring for a ticket for him to leave.

Joe Atkins is a cylindrical moron. That is a moron anyway you look at it. My son got his masters in journalism at Ole Miss and I cringe at the thought that this man ever taught any class sanywhere near my boy.

What are you thinking?
