Nunnelee Praises Passage Of Abortion Opt-Out
Alan Nunnelee sent out an email commending passage of the abortion opt-out he sponsored in the Senate not long after it cleared the House. As we have talked about, it passed the House by a 75-32 vote earlier today (although a procedural move will cause lawmakers to come back to vote again on Wednesday).
Nunnelee said he was glad the House “considered and passed” SB 3214, while also praising Billy McCoy for helping steer the bills’ passage. “It would not have happened without his leadership,” Nunnelee said.
When Nunnelee first announced he was sponsoring this legislation, I gave two political reasons House Democrats may be uncomfortable with it. One as we saw play out was that the Black Caucus took this as an attack on Barack Obama. The other reason is that this would help Nunnelee in his Congressional run- something many Northeast Mississippi Democrats do not want any part in. One legislator who I talked with said that may have been the reason Rep. Steve Holland, whose Plantersville home is near Nunnelee’s base in Tupelo, was so adamantly opposed to this yesterday and then decided to not even show up this morning.
Nevertheless, it looks like McCoy’s pro-life convictions were stronger than his political desires to please the Black Caucus and keep Nunnelee out of the headlines. As for Nunnelee, expect to have this bill brought up many times on the campaign trail.

Whew, we all need to thank Senator Nunnele for passing a law that already exists. This is the first occurence I can recall where Steve Holland comes out making sense. I’ll make sure I add an extra 50 or so to the taxes this year to help pay for those extra days that are not needed in session. I like the guy whose ad is hanging up to the right of this box. He’s not a career politician, seems genuine in his message. McGlowans got some good ideas. Mark me as undecided
Wouldn’t exactly call stopping federal abortion funding a waste unless of course you disgaree with it and just don’t wanna say so. The new healthcare bill clearly states that states have the option of banning abortion funding from the new exchanges, that is all Mississippi did or is trying to do.
Congrats to Nunnelee!
Now this is leadership in action. He took the bull by the horns and got this bill passed.
This is the kind of pro active leadership that I want representing me in DC.
Awesome! ! ! ! !
from California
glad it got done, but considering his short list of co-sponsored legislation – it is obvious political postering. It takes a Congressional race to make him act. Steve holland’s comment’s are the dead truth.
Short list?

DaveG what are you trying to do sully all the Nunnelee haters made up arguments with fact? How dare you bring documented facts about a real legislators work into this race?
Well come to think of it Mr. Nunnelee is the only candidate that has ever introduced any kind of legislation.
Oh wait that makes him a career politician?
