Wednesday Election Notebook

April 28, 2010

MS-01: The Chamber of Commerce has presented Travis Childers with its “Spirit of Enterprise” award, reports Patsy Brumfield. This award goes out to Senate and House members who support the Chamber’s position on at least 70 percent of their key votes. The only member from the state’s Congressional delegation who did not receive the award was Bennie Thompson. No word on what this means for an endorsement, but any recognition from the Chamber is a good thing.

MS-01: Childers sent out a press release stating that he is introducing legislation to restore Second Amendment rights in DC. Similar legislation was pulled from the floor schedule last week. In the presser, NRA executive director Chris Cox said, “We are grateful that a bipartisan group of members of Congress led by…Congressman Childers… has taken this significant step to require the D.C. Council to abide by the Heller decision.” The Chamber and NRA- pretty good company.

MS-01: Alan Nunnelee said this about last night’s debate: “Had a great time tonight at the Columbus debate and I’m looking forward to the debate in Desoto this Saturday and Lee next Tuesday.”

MS-01: Regarding the debate last night, Henry Ross simply said “last night’s debate went very well.” Speaking with Ross’ campaign, I know they are very excited about his performance.

MS-01: As I mentioned in the comments on the debate post, that clip of Angela McGlowan speaking about the Second Amendment was actually from a debate last week. The campaign never said it was from last night, but when it was posted this morning I just jumped to the wrong conclusion. From what I have seen, the Second Amendment did not come up last night.

MS-01: I found this video on YouTube. It is a five minute clip of McGlowan’s speech at the Searchlight, Nevada (hometown of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid) Tea Party Express rally last month.

MS-01: Freedom’s Watch is up with this ad attacking Travis Childers. Freedom’s Watch continues to be a big player/ spender on the GOP side of PACs and it doesn’t look like much will be changed in 2010.

MS-01: Angela McGlowan was recently featured in this World Net Daily (a conservative blog) story about “stunning Americans looking to dethrone Pelosi.” Joseph Farah, the editor of WND, spoke before McGlowan at the national Tea Party convention in Nashville earlier this year before (at least informally) endorsing her.

MS-04: Writing on his Facebook wall, Joe Tegerdine is saying that members of the Democratic Party are urging a boycott of The Shed- which will be the location of their campaign’s fundraiser on Friday night.

2010 Primaries: As a reminder, the last day to register to vote in the June 1 primary is May 1. Contact your Circuit Clerk or the Secretary of State’s office for more specific information if you are not registered.

2010 House: The Real Clear Politics House map currently has MS-01 listed in the Leans Republican category. MS-04 is currently sitting in the Likely Dem category (which is one column safer than the Lean category). If you check out the map, you can the situation facing the Dems. There are currently three GOP seats in either the Toss Up, Leans D or Likely D category. At the same time there are 34 Democrat held seats listed as Toss Up, 20 listed as Leans R and two listed as Likely R.

Coming Soon: Since we are approaching the 30 day countdown to the primary election, I thought it would be appropriate to take an in depth look at the GOP primary races in MS-01 and MS-04. Be on the lookout for those stories early next week.

Something keeps coming up time and again about McGlowan and the endorsements we keep hearing about that I find interesting. She says she worked with and knows some of the most influential people in conservative circles but they do not endorse her. Why? Instead she makes a big deal out of a television judge and now an editor of an “interesting” web site. Where is the endorsement from Bob Dole or Nancy Regan? What about Sean Hanity? She was a regular on his show. Just asking, seems wierd.

Brett, just a bit of clarification on The Shed. They have multiple franchises. The Joe Tegerdine fundraiser is being held at the one on Hwy 53 in Gulfport, about a mile west of Hwy 49, and the time is 6pm to 8pm.

It should be some interesting GOP Primaries. I have my personal favorites, but the bottom line is painting the state red!

Joe and The Shed and their conservative supporters shall overcome the oppression and intimidation the Democrats what to control us by. It will unite us and make us stronger.

Can anyone give details about the gun show in Southaven Saturday where McGlowan was seen having heated words with people at the NRA table? This was just before the SBEC Republican Forum. Ole Miss students, Hernando senior citizens, and now NRA members – this a varied group to have dust ups with.

What are you thinking?
