McGlowan Reports More Than $20k Worth Of In-Kind Contributions
After sorting through the latest campaign finance disclosures, I noticed something a bit unusual about Angela McGlowan’s contributions. Her total contributions for the April 1- May 12 period added up to $49,232.24. A pretty respectable amount.
However, when you look at the itemized receipts you see the campaign reported $21,500 worth of ‘in-kind’ contributions. Simply defined, these are contributions other than cash for things such as office furniture, transportation, salary, or (more often than not in McGlowan’s case) security.

There is nothing wrong or illegal with in-kind contributions. In fact, I believe you are required to report these contributions. But at the same time, it is very unusual to see this many in-kind contributions. Not counting that $21,5000, her campaign received about $28,000 in cash (or traditional contributions). Obviously, nearly $50,000 sounds a lot better than less than $30,000. Percentage wise the in-kind contributions made up about 43 percent of her total this reporting period.
For comparison, I looked at the financial disclosures from Alan Nunnelee and Henry Ross and spotted just a couple in-kind contributions between the two of them.
