Tegerdine: My Biggest Weakness Is I Wasn’t Born Here
The Sun Herald did a profile on Fourth District candidates Steven Palazzo and Joe Tegerdine over the weekend. The article mentioned an issue that has been brought up many times on this blog- Tegerdine’s lack of Mississippi roots. In response to that, Tegerdine said: “I think when people get to know me, they realize I am cut out of the same cloth. My biggest weakness is I wasn’t born here. When they evaluate my life and my past, I think people realize I am a good guy and have good qualifications.”
Palazzo emphasizes military background. The article focused a pretty good deal on Palazzo’s military experience, which includes combat experience in the Persian Gulf War and his current service with the Mississippi National Guard. “I can’t imagine South Mississippi sending someone up to Congress that has never spent a day in the military,” Palazzo said. Rep. Gene Taylor served in the Coast Guard Reserves from 1971 to 1984.
Tegerdine releases two ads. The Tegerdine camp cut two 30-second campaign ads that came out today. As of right now, I am not sure if and how much they are running on television.

Hoooyah Palazzo how about those debates you fled from? I guess that when you just keep losing it’s a good idea to run. Palazzo and Taylor are cut from the same cloth and Palazzo’s statement proves it. Steve is as conservative as Kerry and Murtha. LOL
Steve was supposed to do a gun show in Biloxi this weekend. He didn’t show up there either. Maybe he should change his name to “No Show Palazzooooo”!
I have to agree the worst thing about Joe is not a character flaw, not a list of broken rules/laws, not a list of lies he has told about his fellow Republican but his place of birth. For that I can vote with full confidence that Joe is a man of honor, respect and character. A man of his word. I have asked Joe 100+ questions, the hardest ones I could come up with and I must say, Joe is open, honest, accessible, consistent, knowledgeable, articulate, and most of kind. He never made me feel stupid for asking him just 3 more questions, he never laughed at me or rolled his eyes at me. Joe never walked away to avoid my question nor belittled others to make a point.
I also asked Steven Palazzo a few questions. He has laughed at me, walked away from me, rolled his eyes at me, answered my question with a question, used 6th grade vocabulary, poor grammar, and misspelled words. He answered me with quotes from famous people and never addressed my question. He has un-apologetically flipped-flopped his answers since running a few short months ago. Steven has lied about Joe and shows no remorse for attempting to fool trusting voters. I’m just wish he was out of the picture June 2 for Palazzo should not be representing anyone in Mississippi.
I couldn’t care less where someone was born in America.
Brett…who chooses your headlines for you?
By the way, will you check out something with Palazzo camp for me….email be privately and give me the best way to contact you…got something I would like for you to verify with the guy. Must warn you, it’s BIG.
My email is editor@majorityinms.com
If I were a past candidate for Congress, or even a present one,I would be highly insulted by Palazzo’s remarks about candidates who have not served a day in the military. It sounds like he thinks that if you have not served in the military, you are not worthy nor qualified to serve the 4th district in Congress. These are the kind of “off the cuff” comments that candidates MUST be careful to NOT make.
Somehow as I watch Palazzos campaign here lately I’m reminded of the scene in ‘Liar Liar” where Jim Carey is asked what he’s doing in the rest room. His answer would fit this situation quite well. “What does it look like I’m doing? I’m kicking my own ass.”
I’d love to be a fly on the wall right about now as Barbour and Lott call him on the phone. “Remember when I told you that the way you win elections is to make someone look really bad?”
“Yes?”
“I was talking about making your opponent look bad, not yourself.”
“Ooooohhhh! Thanks.”
“CLICK BUZZZZZZZ…..”
They continue with the same lies even after someone provides a source where they can learn the truth. The lies are obvious, and anyone following the election will see it as politics as usual from the Palazzo campaign/supporters.
The only problem with Joe is he moved to Mississippi to become a politican. The truth is Mississippians are not DUMB to what is going on. Come on Mississippi, looks like not all of us are stupid rednecks like he thought. Looks like Joe’s supporters are shaken in thier shoes with all the negative mud slinging going on the blogs. Ohhhhh maybe that is Joe’s biggest weakness, all of the mud slinging is turning people off.
Dontreadonme,
You are so transparent.
Joe Tegerdine moved here because his JOB MOVED TO HATTIESBURG!!! He has only told everyone this about a million time. His job had an office in Destin, Fl. His boss if from Hattiesburg. His boss purchased a building in downtown Hattiesburg, renovated it and then MOVED THE ENTIRE OFFICE HERE. What part of this timeline do you NOT understand??? Seriously, lay off the bong, dude. It makes people stupid!
Check your facts… Tegerdine came here for work and had no intention of running for office. He chose to live in Mississippi to raise his family and unlike most career politicians, he does not believe his friends and neighbors are stupid rednecks. Why are people so afraid of honesty? Tegerdine has honestly represented himself from day one and his opponent has not. Oh yeah, last time I checked, Trent Lott did not serve in the military and he represented South Mississippi quite well.
I’m gonna miss the Tegerdine folks when the election is over. They complain when you dont write about him, they complain when you write about him but its not some glowing story, now they complain about the title- which were a quote from their man no less.
C’mon Chris, get real! You know what I was talking about, and so does everyone else. Of all the titles that could have been used, one that talks about a Tegerdine weakness, not a Palazzo weakness, was used. I can think of several other titles that could have just as easily been used to remain “neutral appearing”…let’s see now…what about “Tegerdine Releases First T.V. Ads”, or “Palazzo Suggests MS 04 Congressman Should be a Veteran” Every blog owner has their favorites or their “lean towards”, that’s understood….it just gets a little too obvious sometimes as to who that is in this particular race, and I guess I just come from the old school….used to non-partisan reporting in journalism; but, I guess, when it comes down to it, blogs are not really journalism are they?
MSPolitics82
MIM has always had leanings towards Palazzo. Do not expect them to be unbiased.
If MIM only knew some of the things I know !!
What is the Maximum fine and jail time that someone like let’s say, Wells Griffith, Palazzo’s Campaign manager could get for stealing Joe Tegerdine yard signs?
Wells Griffith? Isn’t he the boy from Alabama that used to be some sort of director for the Mississippi Republican Party that got fired? I remember something about someone that stole a mailing list and used it in a campaign down here. I’m sure someone from the Palazzo campaign will be here to set the record straight.
I love the Tegerdine commercials! Even more, I love the fact that he used a local company to produce them.
I think he used a 17 year old kid who is an aspiring producer. The kid won a contest for Verizon (maybe another big phone company) and did Tegerdine’s commercials. I think they’re cute. Not completely professional, but it fits Tegerdine’s campaign.
Liberty you’re so right about Tegerdine hiring a local company for the job. I wonder why Palazzo didn’t hire a local company to do the voter attitude survey. He went to some company in Virginia instead. Pathetic isn’t it?
An Alabama campaign manager. Using a Virginia survey company. He used a Washington telemarketing firm to make calls. For someone who talks a lot about only a natural born Mississippian being able to represent the district and putting Mississippi 1st, Steve sure spends a lot of campaign funds out of the state!
You’re right Beth. Maybe he should change his slogan to something like “Sticking it to Mississippi FIRST”
If I were Tegerdine, I would have gotten Mike Lott and any other local South Mississippi notables who are supporting him (if he has any?) to talk in thick Southern accents about how they love all things Mississippi and Joe Tegerdine.
There more than you think Matt. Whether they’ve decided to follow your totally awesome linguistic suggestions or not I have no idea. They are part of Joe’s campaign and the people like that outnumber the paid staff for his campaign.
The his in the previous post was a reference to steve. The funny thing is that just about every person like the ones you referred to Matt that steve has claimed is on his campaign has been followed by a retraction.
Joe has a great producer. His problem remains the same he does not understand south mississippi. In turn he has been very vague on the local issues. He has been a very Internationalist style canadate. Only commenting on National and International issues. The People deserve to know more about the issues. Government Spending and Protecting the Border is all he gives. Joe really don’t know south mississippians.
some people really don’t know how to spell and/or use good grammar
dontreadonme, your comment about Joe coming to MS to become a politican is amusing, where else has he ran for office.
I hear that Steven himself said that exact same thing to a casino employee…
Are you SP? or just sharing his campaigning points with us?
Travis,
I agree, Dontreadonme has posted some amusing comments. I don’t think anyone believes them to be credible. But I have on occasion laughed out loud while reading his post. It’s been real fun sharing his comments with my co-workers and then sharing the truth. It is too easy to fact check these things…surely Dontreadonme knows this.
You just can not discuss any issues. I am beginning to believe you know nothing about the issues. Give the evidence on your fact check. Ohhh you scared to debate head up. Fact is you have no facts just Spin.
Nah, can’t be Palazzo. Surely SP is smarter than that….isn’t he? Isn’t he?
Way smarter than JT or SP. Iam even smarter than ML and he knows it. That is why you will not debate the issues.
It is quiet obvious, It does not take a PHD to understand. There are more than 47 Romney Republicans running for office around the Country. He is a Romney Republican.
Romney republicans replacing rino republicans? Lions and tigers and bears. Oh my! Lions and tigers and bears.Oh my!
You made up the Romney republicans yourself. I’m suspecting you’re SP too. Will you now share brave tales of how you ripped the tops of Iraqi tanks off and peed on the spark plugs so you could capture the evil diesel tank driving scum?
Dang that is funny!
Romney Republicans, Regan Republicans, and Rockefeller Republicans I guess I made these up to. HA HA HA maybe the princess knows nothing about the Republicans.
Would you mind taking a time out from your anti Tegerdine postings
to explain your screen name?
Don tread on me? or Dont read on me?
It is what ever you want it to be. The issues discuss the issues! His biggest weakness is he does not campaign on issues. The people want to know about the issues. No canadate is discussing the issues. I have noticed no one has said anything about the Silver Bullet Issue.
Probably because most people think you’re a nutjob and don’t think you even know what a silver bullet is. No offense. And Tegerdine discusses issues at every townhall forum, every debate, all over his website. Dude, put the bong away.
His bloggers don’t discuss issues. Only slanders and insults. It does not phase me. Heah stay off the fairy dust.
Tegerdine’s commercials aired last night on Fox News during Beck, Hannity, etc. Did anyone else see them??
Yes, I saw the Tegerdine commercials.
“My Biggest Weakness Is I Wasn’t Born Here”
What a powerful weakness – if thats the worst thing that people can say about him, wow – thats wonderful.
What a powerful voting base that Palazzo supporters have rejected. How many people in the 4th district were actually born here?
Are these people christian people that have a problem with Joe’s birthplace? I thought christian people – like Christ – accepted people who chose him. Should we also not accept people that choose to be Mississippians?
I thought that once you accepted Christ you were adopted into the promise regardless of the time you actually spent in the promise or where outside the promise you actually came from. I thought once you accepted Christ – divisions such as Jew or Gentile and all the other devisive divisions go away and its either Christ or not Christ.
Palazzo was born here and I have not heard him talk much about what a fine place we have here – Joe recognized the tremendous value of being a Mississippian – he wanted to be here and has spoken often about what a wonderful place this is. The Palazzo camp wants to divide Mississipians into “Real Mississippians” and Not Really Mississipians” by THEIR definition. This is isolatonism its bigotry its not Christ Like and it is counterproductive to a gospel spreading empire.
I rec’d my second flyer for Palazzo in the mail today. If I’d never heard of him, just from reading the flyers, I’d think he’s a pretty good candidate.
If I didn’t know he voted twice for private corporations to grab your land without just compensation… I’d think he’s a pretty good candidate.
If I didn’t know he’s always been against eminent domain reform in MS, until he flip-flopped a few weeks ago…. I’d think he’s a pretty good candidate.
His “Fire Nancy Pelosi” slogan only carries him so far.
He’s another career politician.
Let’s clean house.
