Childers Wins Another Big Endorsement
The Daily Journal reported yesterday that Rep. Travis Childers was endorsed by National Right to Life, the nation’s largest pro-life organization, in his re-election bid. This is the second big endorsement for the Childers’ campaign in as many weeks after picking up the NRA’s backing last Tuesday.
The NRA endorsement was pretty much expected, and while this isn’t an entire surprise by any stretch, I would say I am a little more shocked about this one. The NRLC doesn’t have a long-time reputation in working with and endorsing Democrats. That’s partly because there just aren’t many pro-life Democrats in Washington (especially compared to pro-gun Democrats). It looks like the NRLC is pursuing the NRA’s strategy of getting as many Democrats on your side as possible and hedging your bets on friendly incumbents- which has obviously been enormously successful for the NRA.
So far the NRLC has basically been shut out of the Democratic run Congress. They got a short-term win when Nancy Pelosi and company allowed a vote on the Stupak amendment last fall, but the final healthcare bill did not contain anti-abortion language anywhere near as strict and a meaningless executive order by the president has not been followed up upon.
I am VERY disappointed in the NRLC. Their ignorance is alarming. I am shocked and dismayed that the wool has been pulled over their eyes. I hope our state RLC will come out and blast them for this. You cannot endorse a man who votes to empower Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team and still call him pro-life.

Remind them that AlanNunnelee has helped make Mississippi the safest state for the unborn. Childers may not support abortion clinics, but he votes for those who do.
I talked to Barbara at the above no., she said that MSRTL is a state PAC and can only endorse state candidates. She has put Alan Nunnelee’s voting record out in their news letter. 100% Prolife voting record, and he has authored several Prolife bills in the Senate. The number for the NRTL is 202-626-8800. This is the group to call to express displeasure with the endorsement.
