AUL Honors Several In Mississippi

August 25, 2010

Over the weekend, I posted a picture of Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant receiving a certificate from Americans United for Life for his work in pushing through the abortion opt-out bill at the end of the last legislative session. The group posted a full press release on their website today.

In addition to Bryant, AUL also credited Senators Alan Nunnelee and Billy Hewes and Representatives Philip Gunn and Andy Gipson for their work in steering the bill through the legislature. AUL Mississippi State Director Terri Herring said, “In Mississippi, most elected officials say they are ‘pro-life’ but what we really need is leadership. Those who were given this award provided more than just lip service, they actually led the charge to protect the public trust by preventing our tax dollars from providing for the destruction of human life in the name of health.”

AUL also blasted the House and singled out Rep. Steve Holland. “The bill was assigned to the Public Health and Human Services Committee where Chairman Stephen Holland stood opposed to its passage. Knowing the bill would pass if it came up for a vote, he simply refused to allow the bill to be heard. On Friday April 23, it came time for the legislature to adjourn for the year and the bill was still sitting in Holland’s committee,” the presser read.

We chronicled the bills journey at the time of the delay and eventual passage (here, here, here, and here). It was a very interesting ride to say the least.

Steve Holland is the biggest jerk in the State Legislature. I still have the photo of him sticking out his tongue at some conservative State Senators. Most state legislators are pretty nice folks, but Holland is meaner than a junkyard dog. Does he have the state mental institution in his district and do they all vote for him? I can’t stand him one iota. Holland probably thinks Obamadamadingdong is a flaming conservative.

What are you thinking?
