Dueling Pressers On Education
We got fresh press releases from both the Travis Childers and Alan Nunnelee camps today on the topic of education. The first was from this morning when Childers rebutted Nunnelee’s rebuttal to an initial point Childers made. The second is a rebuttal from Nunnelee to that Childers’ latest rebuttal. Following?
They are both below the fold.
Travis Childers:
Today, State Senate Appropriations Chair Alan Nunnelee got his facts wrong again when he claimed that a bill to create and save 2,000 education jobs in Mississippi was “a publicity stunt” that would increase the deficit. [North Mississippi Daily Journal, 8/25/10] The truth is that the Education Jobs Bill, recently passed by Congress and signed into law, is fully paid-for and doesn’t add a penny to our national debt or deficit. [U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, 8/10/10; Congressional Budget Office] In fact, the bill helps prevent further property tax increases resulting from Nunnelee’s education budget cuts. [North Mississippi Daily Journal, 8/7/10]
What isn’t fully paid-for is Alan Nunnelee’s massive slashing of our education budget while hundreds of millions of dollars in Recovery Act and reserve funds remain unused in Jackson. These cuts have led to thousands of school layoffs, created over-crowding in our children’s classrooms, and reduced the quality of learning in our schools. And how has Nunnelee tried to “pay for” these cuts? By forcing our school districts to raise property taxes, causing hard-working North Mississippians to dig deeper into their pockets during today’s tough times.
“My opponent needs to spend less time playing politics with our children’s education and more time reading up on the facts,” said Travis Childers. “The legislation I supported to save and create 2,000 education jobs in Mississippi was fully paid-for. And I’m sure the North Mississippi teachers whose jobs are at risk don’t see this piece of critical legislature as some sort of stunt. Meanwhile, Alan Nunnelee’s cuts to education have cost Mississippi taxpayers even more than jobs and a quality education – they’ve raised taxes and jeopardized our children’s ability to secure good-paying jobs in the future.”
Alan Nunnelee:
Schools and teachers have been an important part of my life for a long time. I went to public schools in North Mississippi, as did my children. I know how important teachers are to the lives of young children; I hear stories about their influence every night at the dinner table from my wife, Tori, who’s a school nurse.
That’s why I was disappointed this week to see more personal attacks from Travis Childers about my stand for the children of North Mississippi. We’ve had to make some tough decisions about government spending in Mississippi over the last two years. I’ve talked to private businessmen and women who have had to cut salaries by over 20%, and our unemployment is now over 13%. Families are having to tighten their belts, and I believe government should do the same.
I refuse to saddle the children of our state with debts that will be impossible to repay. No grandparent in North Mississippi would spend uncontro llably on their credit card, and then hand the bill to their grandchild. We have to live within our means.
Leaders cannot claim to be for children while going on a spending spree and knowingly handing them an impossible debt. Since Nancy Pelosi and this Congress took over in 2008, the debt that every child will have to repay has gone up over 30%. That’s unacceptable, and as your next Congressman, I’ll put a stop to it.
Travis wants to talk Education because he sure can’t talk about jobs or spending.
Well Brett, here is Wally Pangs Comment to both on the Rebuttles of their rebuttles lol it was posted a short time ago
I READ THE STATEMENT SENT OUT TODAY BY THE PATRICK NUNNELEE CAMPAIGN CRYING AGAIN OVER GETTING HIT BY TRAVIS CHILDERS OVER EDUCATION. HE COMMENTS ON THE TERRIBLE 13% UNEMPLOYMENT IN MS.–WELL PATRICK, YOU–YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.–YOU WERE THE SITTING SENATOR IN MS. RESPONSIBLE FOR SAVING AND BRINGING JOBS INTO MS.,AND YOU FAILED. YOU CRY NOW OVER LOST JOBS AND 13% UNEMPLOYMENT,BUT REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSABILITY. MAN UP! ITS YOUR FAULT– UNTIL THE END OF THE PRIMARY–YOU SIR WERE THE GOVERMENT. QUIT BLAMING CHILDERS FOR EVERYTHING! HE IS TOO BUSY SUKING UP TO BARNEY FRANKS FOR MONEY!YOU BRAG YOU CUT TAXES 150 TIMES. NOW TELL EVERYONE HOW MANY TIMES YOU VOTED FOR THEM. TELL EVERYONE YOU DON’T WANT TERM LIMITS BECAUSE YOU WANT THAT EXTRA RETIREMENT CHECK ON THE TAXPAYERS DIME! AND NOW YOU WANT TO GO TO WASHINGTON?If you wanted Govt. to REALLY tighten their belts, you should have started with your own.
I HARDLY THINK SO.WE ARE DONE! WE’VE HAD ENOUGHT WE ARE MAD AS HELL AND GOING TO CLEAN HOUSE– NO RINO’S ALLOWED!
Thats very interesting Grizz. That sounds an awful lot like the dribble that you have been spewing for the last six months. I just wonder….do you just go on and post what you think Wally would say and then say he said it or do you inform him of what he is going to say before you say it for him?
hahaha ok,ya got me,i’m 69 yrs old and am chinese
ur a goof–more nunnelee sheeple–seems his web site just broke the links between alan and norquist too with their muslim jihadi buddies and Phillip Morris Tobacco$$$
yep, follow the money trail–alan didn’t cover his trail good enough- lets see now,i just wonder what ms. senator was on the finance committee when norquist’s buddies got busted here in ms. involving Indian casinos and are all now in the Penn–hhmmm ,well it will all come out soon
It is interesting Grizz how everything you say here usually gets repeated on Wally’s Facebook page. If Wally wants some publicity, he should buy an ad instead of having someone post stuff for him.
SS dawggie, its been up on Mr.Pangs page for quite some time–cple 3 hrs i guess,i just copied and pasted it here so i could make sure you big party followers could see it for sure.seems it was important enough to have you comment lol–shall i go write something on Alans page now for him too? perhaps his resignation lol-
I really like the way Mr. Nunnelee sounds so concerned about working families having to take a 20%pay cut and having to tighten their belts when HE is the one who VOTED TO GIVE RAISES TO MEMBERS WORKING IN THE STATE CAPITOL while the rest of us are struggleing with having to make on what we have, and in some cases workers are seeing a pay cut. just to stay employed!
How about comming down from your elitist point of view and see it from our side for a change, no that wouldn’t work because you needed their help to further your career political objectives.
@ AG ONE of you Independants needs to win this mess.
Travis Childres is so stupid speinding in DC every penny they get thier hands own is why the United States is borke. If Ms. does the something in three are four years Ms. would be the same way. Is it that he does not spend time in Ms. know that if we spend what is not being used is why Ms. is not in the same shape DC is in. That we have people here in Ms. looking out for the State that really care about what is going on. No like Bennie Thompson, Gene Taylor and Travis Childers that has no idea what is happen here in Ms. All these people know is FOLLOW PISSLOSI and TAX AND SPEND. That is why they must go. Are you DAMN O RATS TO STUPID TO SEE THAT? Are you to stupid to see you liberal’s are slaves to the damn o rat party. Can you sleep at night know you put these baby killer in office. GOING TO CHURCH DOES NOT MAKE YOU CHIRISTIAN ANY MORE THAN GOING OUT IN THE RIAN MAKES YOU A RAIN DROP. THEY SUPPORT TWO OF THE BIGGEST BABY KILLER IN THE WORLD IN OBAMA AND PELOSI IF YOU SUPPORT SIN YOU ARE A SINNER. IF YOU SUPPORT A BABY KILLER YOU ARE A BABY KILLER. GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOLES FOR I WILL NOT.
It is time for Taylor, Thompson, Childres to go. Then next time we will take out who we put in if they don’t do the job. But Mr. Nulnnelee the liberal took over the Louse and Sinate in 2006.
sounds like eredy from ms. 9.12–is that you eric?
Wow! I am utterly amazed at the venom spewed on this blog site. I like to read opionions, but this recent diatribe promoting Wally Pang by tearing down an honest public servant has turned me off. I wish Wally Pang and his supporters would tell us what he is going to do instead of ripping at the reputation of a man I personally feel has done a good job for the state of Mississippi.
Diatribe? well i guess politicians should really watch who they associate with and how they vote then. When you associate with friends of Radical Muslim jihadi terrorists, some NOW in the Pen,and OTHERS under indictment in the USA for terror activity INSIDE the USA,then take their MONEY, its fair game to let everyone know and let the secret out. As for mr.Pang, pethaps some should actualy read his stated views esp on 2nd. Amendment and Illegal immigration, and his plan for Ms/ economy.-But never mind, there is more than ONE Independant who has ideas. go ahead, vote for mr. nunnelee, its your right, and btw,you can pay his raises with YOUR taxes, leave mine alone. SOME should have the fortitude to blog / post under 1 name, then take the heat and respond, not hide under SEVERAL different names and come in here posting as someone else.right Paula?
Mr. Grizz, I am confused by your comments back to me. I don’t know who “Paula” is. I am stating my opinion without lashing out at other conservative candidates in this race. The truth is that I want to see Travis Childers voted OUT OF OFFICE and I prefer Nunnelee because, in spite of what you are saying I know him to be an honest man with a worthy voting record. Again, it is just my opinion but the last time I checked I have a right to freely express it. Hopefully my comments are not offensive. I certainly do not mean for them to be. I must say though that I am offended by yours and find it very difficult to believe the ominous spin you have placed on having Alan Nunnelee as our congressman. I only wish you could spin that trash somewhere else. I quit looking at this site because of your comments, so I guess I will have to quit once again. It is a shame because I usually enjoy the comments made here.
@”brenda” wewll ur comments are offenbsive,so i reply in kind- wqhile you say you are entitled to your opinion, you say mine aree trash-facts are facts, and its laid out publicly on the web RE: mr nunnelees buddy norquist whom he took $$ from.
one of the joys of the
USA is being able to report truthfully on political Candidates. and another is not having to look at a web site if you do not want to. bye-
