Nunnelee’s Camp Reacts To Poll
The Commercial Appeal got reaction from Alan Nunnelee’s side on the Anzalone Liszt Research poll conducted for Travis Childers showing the incumbent with a 46-41 edge over Nunnelee. Morgan Baldwin, campaign consultant for Nunnelee, said: “I can’t speak to the validity of their numbers, but as an incumbent, I wouldn’t be jumping up and down. Any time an incumbent is below 50 percent after Labor Day, he’s in trouble.”
Interestingly, an internal polling dump seems to be the latest strategy from the DCCC in the fight to preserve the Democratic majority. Many media outlets, including this piece from CQ Politics, touched on this move. This was done in an effort to counter what has mainly been bad news for Democrats in DC whether they are having to deal with the president, the economy, or political handicappers releasing their predictions. At this time, the three main handicappers- Charlie Cook, Larry Saboto, and Stu Rothenberg- are now giving estimates that would provide the GOP with a majority. And while some Democrats may have been happy to see Gallup’s generic vote go back to even, the Real Clear Politics average has actually expanded over the past week giving the GOP a 6.7 point lead at this time as every other poll has gone in the other direction.
