Childers Comes Back To Social Security

September 29, 2010

Can we say the Travis Childers campaign has come full-circle? A couple months back they began their campaign with pressers attacking Alan Nunnelee for supposedly supporting Social Security privatization (that was inaccurate, but I suppose that’s beside the point). They then moved on to education, followed by the Fair Tax. And as we saw from their latest presser, it is back to square one: Alan Nunnelee supports Social Security privatization.

I suppose the sourcing is a little more substantial than random comments on blogs, but not by much. The reason he supports privatization this time: he apparently didn’t or won’t be participating in some AARP debate. Previous reasons that Nunnelee supported privatization included because his primary opponents did, and they then endorsed him after he won. Would Childers like to be responsible for everything Barack Obama does or said after the then presidential candidate endorsed him in 2008?

So what has Nunnelee himself actually said about Social Security? As we have documented, he told the Jackson Free Press he opposed privatization back in June and reiterated that over the past few weeks. We know this is the most reliable strategy for Democrats this year, but is Childers really resorting to making things up?

And finally, many people would say it’s pretty interesting that Childers- a man that refused to have public town halls during the height of the healthcare debate- is now calling Nunnelee out about some debate. Also of note, debates are in the works including one at Ole Miss.

I don’t know what else to say other than that the Childers camp is in desperation mode. They are acting like challenges and the underdogs in the race. The question is: what issue does Childers try next time because nothing is apparently working.

To Nunnelee’s credit, he has answered the questions he has had to but has stayed on message the entire time.

It appears that the proverbial straw that Childers and his DNC/Union handlers are grasping for has yet to materialize. Let’s give Nunnelee another hat-tip for staying on message. Since he is not beholding to anyone other than US1 voters, (unlike his opponent) he has been able to do so. If the DNC/Union tv spots and fliers bring these kind of desperate results for Childers, then I hope they keep them coming. “Fool us once, shame on you, fool us twice…well, it’s not going to happen! Remember November!

    Mr Nunnally please
The biggest concern for me is that we on social Security after being Denied our cola for two years now and with ever increasing prices we will be over taxed as seniors . not only that but our medicare benefits are being decreased and who knows what our premiums will be in the next year or two . WE have already been hit very hard with the Obama care package which we did not request or even want . so a 23% tax across the board would be devastating to us . our government needs to be on a strict Budget just like the rest of us . With all these czars which is only Pay back for supporting the candidate and we have thousands more who dont even hold down a Desk let alone do anything like answer their own phone . our Government has gotten too big to be controlled by we the people whom you are supposed to represent . and if some changes of huge proportion arent made it could lead to an all out revolution in the future . and all these revolutions have been fought before . The average citizen has no confidence in our government already so what are you going to do about all these injustices . If we send 23% sales tax to our government in a year or so they will want more and the whole plan is to buy votes to stay in office and not represent the folks that sent you in the first place . Watch the Tea party gatherings some time if you dont believe we the people are tired of all those promises and no action on our behalf.
    thanks
A registered Voter and I do vote so tell us somthing we need to know .
