Palazzo Responds To Taylor In Latest Spot

October 7, 2010

The Steven Palazzo camp has gone on the air with an ad rebutting an earlier spot from the Gene Taylor campaign with eminent domain at the center of the discussion.

Note: If you are reading this via E-mail subscription or RSS, you will have to click though to the blog to see the video.

And here is more from the Palazzo campaign on the issue.

** The Palazzo camp also had to address an FEC complaint against the campaign by a Tea Party member from Hattiesburg. The way the system works- and generally I will say it’s a good one but can be abused- is that any one can file a complaint and there is your story regardless of what is actually involved.

Here is more from the Sun Herald.

I also want to add this. I posted an earlier complaint- one with the FCC against SuperTalk Mississippi- probably against my better judgment. It was filed by a supporter of a third-party candidate in the First District race unhappy with comments supportive of Alan Nunnelee on the network. As for this complaint, it appears to have been orchestrated by ex-supporters of Joe Tegerdine, who lost to Palazzo in the primary. Are they trying to sabotage Palazzo so Tegerdine could have another run in two years? I wouldn’t put a whole lot past some of these groups.

Whatever their reasoning, I feel confident in predicting the effect of this complaint: nothing. Although we will have to wait and see if Taylor picks up on the story and tries to benefit from it.

Yeah there’s like totally no like way there could like be any truth to this right? I find it amusing that you immediately try to redirect blame to those who refuse to endorse Palazzo.

One other thing. If you’re going to try to make political hay don’t act like Palazzo. Do something smart like blame someone who’s still in the race….Say maybe Taylor. Duh!!

Exactly what do you mean by “it APPEARS to have been….” ??? Why would you even make “hay” out of “appearance” when I believe that was the very arguement used against the accusations of Palazzo’s FORMER campaign director (Wells Griffith) of pulling up campaign signs…and the same arguement made against those who were talking about the inappropriate campaign contributions in the primary. I believe people kept saying “put up or shut up”….meaning PROVE IT. So, now, the shoe is on the other foot….you are saying IT APPEARS…..can you please tell me who this person is and the proof of their connection to the Tegerdine campaign. It very well could be so; and if it is, the person could be within their constitutional, lawful rights to do what they are doing. If it were an accusation against Gene Taylor or Bennie Thompson, perhaps some of us wouldn’t be so “defensive” would we? If nothing’s amiss, then, oh well….but I don’t think you should get so defensive just because someone wants something “checked out”…. it’s ANYONE’s right to have it “checked out”…if I heard some of Gene Taylor’s relatives say that Gene’s father-in-law bankrolled some family members’ and friends’ contributions to Taylor’s campaign, then I probably would jump on it, too, and have it checked out! I have to wonder how you would respond to that one! Would you defend TAYLOR, in that case; or would you defend my right to have it checked. By the way…..I did vote for Tegerdine in the primary and will vote for Palazzo (reluctantly because of some of his “lack of character” issues in the primary)..and it was not me who filed the complaint with the FEC, nor do I now who it was…..in spite of who it “appears” to be in your eyes.

Regarding the story about the FEC Filing, I applaud the Sun Herald for publishing the story as it was being ignored by the MS GOP and most of the major media outlets. If it is true that Frank Palazzo’s campaign contributions were illegal, then the money he funneled to his son, Steven Palazzo, gave Palazzo an illegal and unfair advantage, which cheated ALL the people of the 4th district out of a fair race. It appears the citizens of the 4th district have had a crime committed upon them, all of them. The money that it now appears Steven Palazzo got from his father was funneled through various other members of the family and friends. Contributing money this way is a federal crime.

Federal authorities with subpoena powers are looking into this. I did not support Mr. Palazzo in the primary as the information I had at the time was enough to withold my support. The hard core RINO’s in the GOP willl immediately dismiss what I have to say. Call it sour grapes if you want to, however doing so will be dismissive of the facts and is no different than what the loons on the left do with the TEA parties. The loons ignore the facts and pay no attention to the issues and respond by calling the TEA parties racist, bigots, homophobes etc.

There is a lot more about this story coming out soon. Check the website below. I just received two tips on (more) shady dealings of the Palazzo clan and am investigating it.

If it turns out that this story is not true, I will be the first in line to apologize to Steven Palazzo. However no one in the Palazzo campaign has denied the details of the allegation. The campaign has responded that there is nothing to the story and that they did nothing wrong. Most of the people behind bars in Parchment will tell you that they did nothing wrong too.

From what I have read the bragging about the money laundering campaign donation scheme came not from not one, but two sources. Two people, who from all I can tell, don’t even know each other, at least there is nothing to lead you to think that, certainly if they do then there might be a conspiracy. Not a conspiracry to conceal it on their parts, as both seem to have a case of diarrhea of the mouth. This just may be that one time where stupidity just might be a viable defense.

Bigmouth No.1 was Lee Hertz, the postal worker on the coast and No.2 is a Pelozzo operative in Jones County by the name of Michael Shotwell. This is available for all to see as the copy of the complaint is available online.

If it were just one bigmouth bragging that might be one thing, but we have two loudmouths about as far apart in the 4th district as possible, both saying the same thing. That is just a little too much to be a coincidence.

Instead of casting doubt on the person who brought the complaint, maybe the questions should be directed at the Palazzo folks.

There certainly are reasonable grounds to investigate.

If you go to youtube and look up ‘the new sheriff scene from blazing saddles’ you will see an amusing parallel between the new sheriffs actions and the republicans actions during this election for district 4. They have held the electorate hostage again and they think we’re stupid. At least this parallel gives me something to laugh at. What a brilliant set of choices they’ve left us with. LOL

When I look at this election cycle and disengage from it I see an amusing parallel. If you go to youtube and search on ‘the new sheriff scene from blazing saddles’ you’ll see a black sheriff playing a role similar to the one republicans are playing right now. They’re holding the next election hostage (It’s him or Pelosi. If she’s still there in 2011 it’s your fault for not voting for Steve.) and they seem to think it’s working. I’m certain it will work for some votes but not enough.

Okay. I watched the advertisement. I love the claim that he stands for property rights. His voting record just doesn’t seem to show that. This is like the liberals calling Bill Clinton the first black president and saying he stands for womens rights. (I’ve heard he actually was standing too.) Actions and words just never seemed to match up there either.

I love how this is all Tea Party strategy to get Palazzo. Actually most of these groups are called 912 project, Which is about principles and values. If the chose not to support Palazzo because of him siding with Ruth Bader-Ginsburg on eminent domain, or because of allegations of federal election law violations, don’t attribute it to their 2012 “strategy”. They might just be standing on principles. I know the political types can’t understand this. Truth be told they(tea party type groups) are probably still working on their 2011 strategy.

Mike Lott was charged with an FEC violation back in 2004 that negatively impacted his campaign and it ended up being a filing error made by his treasurer. These allegations, if true, are far more significant and a clear breach of campaign finance law. The Sun Herald did not print hearsay… they interviewed the woman who came forward with the story. She has personal knowledge of the conversation SHE HAD with Palazzo’s brother-in-law and confirmed the information in the FEC complaint to be true (the FEC complaint may be hearsay, but complaints do not need to be anything more). The response by Palazzo is classic politician, push it off to his spokesperson and the accountants keeping track of his donations. I think voters would prefer him to address the complaint directly and put it to rest, honestly. If its true, give the money back and self-report to the FEC… people will see it as a mistake and the FEC will probably give a slap on the wrist and a requirement for SP’s staff to do some training… evading and obfuscation will only make it worse. If false, state it, make an offer for an independent auditor to look at bank statements to prove it, and move on. I was planning to vote for Palazzo to get rid of the Democrat majority in the house, but I’m starting to rethink it based on his behavior that is consistent with being a classic politician.

It sounds like people are finally waking up. I also support Tegerdine in the primary and I can tell you that these official complaints are dead on with several verbal complaints that I was hearing way back then. I have no doubt that they are true and Palazzo should be ashamed that he has not put us between a rock and a hard place. I agree with the ascertion that a vote for Taylor is a vote for Pelosi. Putting him back in Washington has the potential to put her back in charge. That is simply not acceptable.

Having said that, what option do we have? A typical politician who votes one way and claims that he didn’t. Then says, well maybe I did, but I had good reason and you wouldn’t understand (it’s a constitutional thing he says). The same guy who knowingly allows daddy to funnel money illegally into his campaign. The same guy who allows his cousin/campaign manager to run around stealing and promoting the stealing of opponents’ campaign signs. BTW his wife admitted to MSGOP higher ups that she knew he was taking signs but claimed it was because they were too close to her house. As if somebody would dare to put political signs outside of her subdivision. So his campaign manager knew and his wife knew, but he didn’t? What choice have you give us Steven? You should really be ashamed of yourself.

I agree wholeheartedly with Scott and sickandtired. I am sick and tired too of people not holding politicians to account for their actions. Too long, too many people have been willing to overlook transgressions to outright crimes for a candidate if they had a ‘D’ or an ‘R’ behind their name. Palazzo’s first quarter fund raising was called ‘amazing’ and ‘impressive’ on this very blog. It looks like that it was neither ‘amazing’ nor ‘impressive’, but illegal.

There has been a second FEC filing this week alleging additional improper/illegal fund-raising with the Palazzo campaign. The plot thickens as it gets deeper.

What are you thinking?
