2011 Political Calendar
January 1: First day in which candidates can formally qualify for elective office.
January 4: Legislative session begins.
March 1: Qualifying deadline for elective office. Note: This is the qualifying deadline for legislative office IF the census has been received by January 1. It is the qualifying deadline for all other offices regardless.
April 3: Legislative session ends.
May 10: Periodic campaign finance reports due.
June 1: Qualifying deadline for legislative office IF the census had not been received by January 1.
June 10: Periodic campaign finance report due.
July 3: Deadline for voter registration for those who wish to participate in primary election.
July 8: Periodic campaign finance report due.
July 24: “Forty-Eight Hour Report” due.
August 2: Primary election.
August 14: “Forty-Eight Hour Report” due for candidates in runoff.
August 23: Primary runoff election.
October 9: Deadline for voter registration for those who wish to participate in general election.
October 10: Periodic campaign finance report due.
October 30: “Forty-Eight Hour Report” due.
November 8: General election.
December 8: Deadline for Secretary of State’s office to certify general election results.

Remember that the qualifying deadline is only extended (if necessary) for legislative candidates. It is not extended for statewide, state district, county or county district offices.
