Who Is Brad Pigott?
The Patsy Brumfield piece this morning targeting Steve Simpson over his potential violation of the Hatch Act (running for public office while holding an appointed state position) made its way from the Daily Journal to the Associated Press (and therefore most newspaper sites in the state).
In the piece, Brumfield uses comments from Brad Pigott to explain why Simpson is breaking the law. Simpson is planning to run for Attorney General against incumbent Jim Hood although whether he is actually a candidate is the main question.
Hood, the last Democratic statewide office holder standing and a candidate for re-election, would be the obvious benefactor of the negative attention created by Brumfield and Pigott.
One other point not mentioned in the story: Pigott is a donor to Hood. In Hood’s latest filings, he received $1,000 from the Jackson attorney who is now being used as an honest source. You can view the report here (check out page four for Pigott’s donation).
A person who understands the law and supports our Attorney General. I understand why this would be troubling.
The only people I have ever heard refer to Hood as “our” attorney general are trial lawyers…
But for Pigott, there is a lot more that Brett didn’t mention. Original lawyer for Diaz comes to mind. He’s part of that Moore-Hood-trial lawyer marriage that has ruled the AGs office for decades now and landed many people in jail.
I don’t know if he went to Brumfield or she went to him, but this story is a fair question to ask and Simpson responded; but they should have never had a Hood donor and backer referenced like he is some unbiased source when it relates to his opponent. I find it funny that Hood didn’t respond, of course he didn’t- he had no need to since his guys are already quoted in the story.
Since federal donations are so much easier to look up than state donations, here are his donations on the federal level courtesy of open secrets: http://majorityinmississippi.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/pigott.jpg
I’m not sure that dear Patsy has the mental capacity to arrive at this charge on her own. I am quite sure that this was brought to her attention by the minions of the AG (be they Pigot or not). The intentional obfuscation of the credentials of the so called expert is par for the course for a reporter who is little more than a political hack and useful tool of the auger that is the Democratic party in MS.
