House Democrats Hold Press Conference
The on again, off again, on again press conference from House Democrats wrapped up a few minutes ago with little in the way of new revelations. It was actually called by Speaker Billy McCoy, but he was not there. Representatives Ed Blackmon, George Flaggs and Credell Calhoun- all members of the Black Caucus- spoke on behalf of the Speaker. I am told state Sen. Kenny Wayne Jones was also there.
The Democrats provided a similar refrain to what they have been saying in the past. Blackmon said that Republicans were looking to dilute the black vote while blaming Haley Barbour for “starting this fire.” Flaggs criticized Phil Bryant for sending the House plan to the Rules committee- and stated (much like the Clarion-Ledger) that the lieutenant governor is the one holding the process up, not the Speaker. Calhoun said that the House should have changed the Senate plan because it was unfair to blacks.
Like I said, not a lot new here from the Democrats.
