Walter Michel Won’t Seek Re-election

March 28, 2011

State Sen. Walter Michel (R-Jackson) announced over the weekend that he will not be running for re-election this fall. Michel has served in the Senate since 1999 representing parts of Madison and Hinds counties. Michel had actually qualified earlier this year, and is (I believe) the only person to have done so at this point. The open seat should be a relatively easy one for Republicans to hold in the fall. Of course, everything we say about this fall deserves an asterisk next to it pending redistricting.

Okay names that would be good for the seat….Will Longwitz, Russ Latino, John Taylor….depends on where the district lines are and which of these guys are in that line. What are some other names to put on the list?

I agree that if lines permit Russ Latino would be excellent to serve our state.
