Tuesday Morning Election Notebook

March 29, 2011

A couple notes on the 2011 elections…

** We are in the process of developing a Google calendar listing fundraisers for state candidates. Be sure to let us know before your campaign is having a reception so we can get it posted on the calendar. This will remain in the Hot List category and under Resources in the links.

** Dave Dennis has a couple fundraisers lined up in April. He has one on April 7 in Jackson followed by one on April 28 in Hattiesburg. You can see the save the dates, while the sponsors and hosts are in the process of being formalized.

** Lynn Fitch met with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee yesterday; he was in town for a speech at Mississippi College. Of interest, Huckabee- a 2008 presidential candidate- is likely to run again meaning he may match up with Haley Barbour.

Fitch said this about the visit with Huckabee: “It was great to have the opportunity today to meet with and share how my campaign is going with my friend, Governor Mike Huckabee. Having the chance to get insight from such a wonderful public servant is invaluable. It’s not surprising the Governor will be speaking to a sold out dinner tonight on the campus of Mississippi College.” Here are a few photos from the visit.

** Tate Reeves had a fundraiser in Pascagoula last night.

** Here is a write-up on a recent visit by Billy Hewes with the Winston County Republican Women at Lake Tiak O’Khat. Hewes was joined by his colleague Sen. Giles Ward (R-Louisville), who has endorsed his campaign for lieutenant governor.

And in a campaign email, Hewes said this about the race with Tate Reeves: “The main contrast in this race will be the level of experience and preparedness for the job of Lt. Governor.”

** Connie Moran’s campaign for state treasurer is coming together. Zata 3 will be involved with the campaign and they are currently looking for a campaign manager to come on by the end of June. Here is the job posting and description at Craig Roberts Jobs Distribution List (about half way down the page). Update: This particular job posting appears to have been taken down.

Looks like Fitch is working hard to run away from the Democrats she has worked for in the past.
