Thursday Morning Election Notebook

April 28, 2011

A couple notes on the 2011 elections…

** Cindy Hyde Smith, who is running for commissioner of agriculture and commerce, received what amounts to an endorsement from outgoing commissioner Lester Spell recently. Y’all Politics has the video from an interview Spell did with the Mississippi Business Journal.

Hyde-Smith is in a three way primary match-up with state Rep. Dannie Reed and Max Phillips, who was the GOP nominee for this position in 2003 (when Spell was a Democrat).

About a week ago, she launched her campaign website which can be found at www.CindyHydeSmith.com.

** Dave Dennis has a fundraiser lined up for May 26 in Hattiesburg. The gubernatorial candidate’s website has more info and we will post the invite when it is available.

** Tate Reeves is having a fundraiser tonight in Flowood.

** Also on the fundraising front, state treasurer candidate Lynn Fitch will be having a reception at the Jackson Yacht Club next Thursday. Here is the invite.

Several discusses are going on about Democratic Gov hopeful, Bill Luckett’s, residency status. We should be discussing this a lot more than what we are. What he is doing is against the law and i hope he doesnt think Morgan Freeman can buy his way around it. Strongest evidence yet i found on RIGHTAway… go here: http://theconservativeright.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/breaking-news-candidate-for-governor-bill-luckett-may-not-eligible-to-run/

What has Lynn Fitch ever done to demonstrate that she is a conservative?

How can anyone vote for Cindy Hyde-Smith? She voted for the “cull cow plant” that cost us $55,000,000. On the Paul Gallo and Sid Salter shows, she said the cow plant was a good idea! Just another extension of Lester Spell – We sure don’t need her. I’m going to vote for Phillips. He has been a lonf time Republican – Hyde Smith “became one” in December and a month later announced for Ag Commissioner. She’s been a Democrat for years and suddenly has “seen the light”.

I’m not so sure Phillips is a “lifelong Republican,” he ran for this office as a Democrat in 1991 and 1995.Hyde Smith has a conservative voting record, so she should be a Republican.

Interesting to note that Cindy Hyde-Smith had the opportunity to switch to the Republican party back in 2003. According to the Magnolia Report (# 35), the GOP hoped to see partisan conversions “even possibly Cindy Hyde-Smith” So DEMOCRAT CINDY HYDE-SMITH took nearly 8 years to make up her mind to switch to the Republican party. She was a DEMOCRAT when she voted for the beef plant that cost us $55,000,000. Now she is a Republican and she still says that the beef Plant was a good idea! We don’t need another Lester Spell in that office. It was Lester and his team that brought us the beef plant. No telling what Hyde-Smith will bring us?

Seems as though the people of Mississippi have put the beef plant behind them, because they re-elected Dr. Spell in the Republican primary in 07 and again in the general election in 07, but if you want to think about the past that is ok. What does Phillips bring to the table, a candidate that is currently on disablity and running for office?

I think that all Mississippi Taxpayers remember the “beef plant” that cost us $55,000,000 – I certainly will! Every Legislator that voted for the beef plant should be voted out of office this year. Mississippi State issued a report that stated that a cull cow plant would not make it, yet Lester Spell and the Water and Timber Board moved forward with it. Yes, I will never forget the beef plant that cost each and every Mississippi taxpayer – and you shouldn’t either!

Senator Hyde-Smith has always been a conservative. She is by far the most impressive of the Republican candidates and will be the nominee. It will be refreshing to have an AG Commissioner who has real experience in that field.

The people that don’t remember the beef plant must not pay ANY state taxes. I will always remember the failed beef plant. Where’s the beef?? It is sad that a state with the problems Mississippi has wasted so much money on a project that nearly everyone said would fail. This says very little about how those elected officals who voted for it would listen to us, the voters.

What are you thinking?
