Meet Bob Evans, True Democrat
Rep. Bob Evans (True Democrat- Monticello) had some interesting quotes on what the Democratic caucus really thinks of members who do not vote in line with Billy McCoy and company. In a Daily Leader article (h/t: FireMcCoy.com) , Evans complained about the annual BIPEC ratings saying they are nothing more than a partisan organization because Republicans received high grades while ‘true Democrats,’ Evans’ actual words, like Evans received failing marks in their support of business.
Here is the quote from Evans: “The true Democrats, like me, don’t believe in giving businesses everything they want that would be detrimental to the workers. The things that are important to the Mississippi Democratic Party, that favor workers and the lower to middle classes, are the things BIPEC will grade you down for if you vote for.”
Of course, BIPEC use to be more bi-partisan; before people like Evans successfully purged conservatives from the party. Examples: Sid Bondurant- A, Scott Bounds- A, Billy Nicholson- B, Russ Nowell- A, Margaret Rogers- A. That is pretty much in line with grades they received as Democrats. It doesn’t appear that BIPEC is getting more partisan, it appears the Democratic Party is getting more liberal.
As for the fake Democrats according to Evans, well, there aren’t many left. Mary Ann Stevens is the most notable example again receiving an A from BIPEC. It’s no wonder that the Democratic leadership wanted to collapse her district. After that failed, they lined up a number of Democrats to run against her in the primary. The only other Democrat I see on here that is running for re-election and did anything better than a D was Mark DuVall. DuVall, a McCoy supporter, drew a late primary challenge from none other than the man who has presided over the party as they went from 75 to 67 Democrats in the House without even having an election, Jamie Franks. DuVall earned a C from the group.
Also earning a C was Deryk Parker who is not running for re-election.
