Mississippi Right To Life Endorses Bryant

At the State Capitol this afternoon, Phil Bryant received an early endorsement from Mississippi Right to Life. In receiving the endorsement, Bryant said this:
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement from Mississippi Right to Life. I am committed to doing everything I can legally do as Governor to support the rights of the unborn, and I appreciate the confidence you have in me.
As Lt. Governor, I’m pleased we were able to successfully make sure of Mississippi’s right to opt out of federally funded abortions under the Obama healthcare bill. That was a big victory for pro-life policies in our state.
I also want to encourage everyone to support the Personhood Amendment that will be on the ballot in November. If successful on the ballot, the Personhood Amendment will be a turning point for protecting the unborn in Mississippi.”
The Dave Dennis campaign sent out an email following the endorsement saying, “I’m disappointed that Mississippi Right to Life did not endorse me, but I can guarantee that no pro-life supporter will be disappointed in my policies on life. I am 100 percent and unconditionally pro-life.”
Brian Perry, Dennis’ campaign manager, added, “We respect Mississippi Right To Life’s decision, but no one should think there is a candidate in this race more pro-life than Dave Dennis.”
Full statement from Dennis:
“Early in our marriage, Jane and I were unsuccessful in having children. We began taking steps toward adoption when we were unexpectedly blessed with our daughter Kate, and then later a son, Padrick. To me, being pro-life is not simply a political position, but a personal conviction which I will honor and promote as Governor.
I believe as our Founding Fathers believed that we are endowed by our Creator ‘with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’ I am fully pro-life and oppose abortion. I favor the Personhood Initiative to put a strong pro-life issue on the ballot in November.
I would support legislation requiring the presentation of ultrasound images to a mother seeking an abortion. I support doubling the adoption income tax credit from $2500 to $5000 to help offset the costs in adoption and decrease the state’s costs in foster care related expenses. I oppose euthanasia and I oppose cloning. I oppose embryonic stem cell research but support cord cell and adult stem cell research that does not injure or kill an unborn child.”
It’s clear that every mention of Phil Bryant on this blog serves as a platform for Dave Dennis.
I know you have to keep your premium advertiser happy but let’s not water-down the political news.
I’m amazed. General Hudson Holliday is on the board of his local church and I don’t think this group ever even approached him on his position.
Curious, before you get bent out of shape, let me share that any mention of Bryant is occasion for the others seeking the same office to speak out.
Now how’s this ‘water-down’ the political news. I see these type public endorsements as more publicity stunts than ‘news’
If he were trying to keep his Premium Advertiser happy wouldn’t he simply not make mention of it at all. It did not help Dave, in the least, so if anything you might say he created a forum for Phil Bryant. That isn’t even the case though, he shares just as much news from both campaigns as he receives. If the comments become a forum for or about Dennis then that is another story and an issue for you to address to fellow readers of the blog, not Brett.
Anyone who watches the political arena closely knows that both the right to life group and the NRA will endorce an incumbent or a politician who has had to vote for or against bills involving these two groups. They do not know, regardless of what he/she says how any candidate will vote until they do so. Does this help Dave Dennis? Gee I hope so but I really don’t think this endorcement means very much.
