Dave Dennis: “I Am Committed To The Second Amendment”

June 23, 2011

Following Phil Bryant’s endorsement from the NRA earlier today, the Dave Dennis campaign sent out a press release stating, “I am fully committed to the protection of our Second Amendment.”

Here is a statement from Dennis: “I’ve been a proud member of the National Rifle Association for over twenty years and I am fully committed to the protection of our Second Amendment right to bear arms for personal safety and security, for hunting and sport, and for collecting. I believe this is a freedom we must preserve and protect. We know sometimes endorsements are as much about politics as about principles. When the NRA endorsed Democrat Ronnie Musgrove over Haley Barbour, or Democrat Travis Childers over Alan Nunnelee, those of us who are members of the NRA understood the politics. I can assure my fellow NRA members, most who like me are not political insiders, that I adhere to the principles of the NRA just as much or more than many who receive their endorsement.”

This is the second week in a row that Bryant won a prime endorsement over Dennis despite the fact that their is no actual difference on the positions by the two. Sending out the follow up emails post-endorsement is similar to what Alan Nunnelee did when Travis Childers won the backing of the NRA, National Right-to-Life and the Chamber of Commerce last year. Dennis has to be hoping the endorsements mean as much in the upcoming primary as they did for Childers.

I believe the last candidate in Mississippi endorsed by the NRA was Gene Taylor. I could be wrong.

After reading Dennis’s response, I can clearly understand why the NRA did not choose to endorse him. He mentioned only three circumstances by which people can possess a gun. He totally omits the true reason our founders placed this Right number 2 in the Bill of Rights. I believe Bill Luckett would be a better protector of the 2nd amendment than Dave Dennis. I would like to know where he stands on the average citizen owning assault rifles that hold more than 16 rounds in the clip.

If you are accused of a crime and cannot afford your right to an attorney, the State will support that right by furnishing you an attorney.

If you cannot afford to Bear arms, the State should furnish them for you. A right is a right.

Yea that’s just what we need. Another government give-away program. Another entitlement program that us taxpayers would have to fund. We are already in serious financial shape and you want to add more debt and more entitlements? I’m sorry Ron, but these type of taxpayer funded excursions is one reason we are in trouble now. You appear to be just another politician who wants to spend, spend, spend our hard-earned dollars.

Maybe they could just give away the guns they confiscate. There is no cost to taxpayers, and it takes guns away from the government.

Have to agree Dennis is right. Who would have thought the NRA’s endorsement of past liberal Democrats would have ever happened. But just like the AMA is now just a FOR profit corporation making money through Medicare applications and no longer represents conservative doctors, the NRA has also become irrelevant. And let’s not even start describing the politically biased, liberal AARP. They started out as a non-profit and now they are so deep into making money from the liberal medical welfare system they are actively trying to alter the truth for their benefit. There are lies and then there are damn lies. All of these once credible groups are damn liars in my book. Nothing wrong with making a profit, but lots wrong with deception.

If you had ever heard Dennis speak you would know he not only is a strong proponent of gun ownership but he is a practicing gun owner, if you get my drift.

How can you get the NRA’s endorsement when you are just a practicing gun owner.

    Catty,
I agree if your a non-profit, you should not be making a profit.

I agree with Dontreadonme and would be curious to know why he only listed those 3 circumstances.

You guys ought to visit Rons’ Facebook and see his stances on the 2nd amendment and the effort by State Bureaucrats to inhibit our right of initiative. It’s pretty stirring.
