Endorsements Everywhere
Endorsement season has surely picked up some steam recently. Phil Bryant picked up the NRA’s endorsement yesterday for his primary run against Dave Dennis, who is a longtime NRA member himself. So how much do these endorsements mean in the grand scheme of things? They do carry weight and a good deal of it depends on who is making the endorsement and when it is made. Obviously the NRA is a large and influential organization, but is their endorsement in a primary really that big of a deal? It would seem to carry more weight and importance in a general election because you can almost guarantee that anybody running for the GOP statewide is going to be staunchly pro-gun rights, it is almost like a required screening question for a job interview. Then you have the endorsements made by people in power or of influence. These usually are more important to the actual primary race because they likely come from people within the same party. You see Democratic legislators taking sides in the Democratic primary as well as on the Republican side. Ultimately, yes the endorsements do matter some although I personally don’t believe it is that much during primary season. I don’t think I have ever voted for a candidate based on the endorsements he/she got or did not get, but that’s just me.
The Oil Reserve Smokescreen
The Obama Administration has decided to release 30 million barrels of oil to ease the prices consumers are paying at the pump. Great, right? Wrong. This is a smoke screen that will only have a short-term effect on oil prices. It is a political move to quiet the masses who are up in arms about surging oil prices. Also, it is good to know that we are using our strategic oil reserves for political games. The oil reserve is usually tapped when there are large-scale supply emergencies, such as Hurricane Katrina. This move by the Obama Administration is irresponsible and a cover up to the real problem with oil prices in this country. What is even more audacious is that Obama and his minions think that Americans are too stupid to realize what they are actually doing here. Consider yourself warned and realize that until we free ourselves from relying on others for our oil that we will continue to have these problems.
How Vulnerable Is Obama?
In all honesty, I believed for the longest time that President Obama would likely win a second term as much as I hated to admit it. I think you could also see this from potential GOP presidential nominees who opted out. Many claimed family decisions, but it is not too far-fetched to believe that some saw this as to big a hill to climb and did not want to waste the resources or take the chance to only lose in the end. Recently though, I feel like the playing field has improved for the GOP in their efforts to possibly unseat President Obama. The economy still sucks, job numbers are still in the tank, nobody likes Obamacare, the Stimulus has been a joke, spending is off the charts, the debt limit has almost been reached, government bonds have been downgradedand now Obama and the Democrats in Washington want to raise taxes. The man has been in office for 2 and a half years and nothing has gotten better. If the GOP can field a strong presidential candidate and things continue the way they have then there is a good chance to take back the White House. I’m not sure who that strong candidate needs to be whether it be a Mitt Romney or Rick Perry, but whoever it is will have to be able to bring all conservatives and enough independents together for a common cause. Obama is extremely vulnerable right now and we may be able to end this nightmare next November.
