Simpson: Hood’s Position On Obamacare Was “Last Straw”

July 26, 2011

In a race that has been placed on the sidelines during the primary season, look for Republicans to soon turn their attention to the A.G. race and see if Steve Simpson can knock off the last remaining Democratic statewide office holder, Jim Hood.

In a campaign email to supporters, Republican candidate Steve Simpson outlined some of the reasons behind his run against Hood:

“Over the last few years, I’ve watched with dismay at the direction our government is headed. For far too long, Mississippi’s legal process has been manipulated by out-of-state trial lawyers who are hoping to cash-in by keeping their friend in the Attorney General’s office.

Last year, Governor Haley Barbour, Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant and an overwhelming majority of Mississippians rose in unified opposition to President Obama’s government takeover of healthcare. Our current Attorney General turned a deaf-ear, refusing to join the nationwide lawsuit against ‘Obama-care.’

This was the last straw – I decided to stand up and do something about it.”

Simpson also talked about his background:

“I’m running for Attorney General to restore the public’s trust in Mississippi’s legal system and do everything in my power to prevent President Obama from taking healthcare decisions away from you and your doctor.

I was born, raised and educated in Mississippi and care deeply about our state’s future. My career of fighting crime, which began almost 30 years ago as a probation and parole officer, allowed me to serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General, an Assistant District Attorney and a Circuit Court Judge. Most recently, I had the honor of serving Governor Haley Barbour as his appointed Commissioner of Mississippi’s Department of Public Safety.

If I’m honored enough to serve you as your next Attorney General, I will place fighting public corruption, joining the lawsuit against ‘Obama-care’ and protecting our youth from internet predators among my top priorities.”

Oh, Simpson wants to restore trust in our state’s legal sytem? That’s odd, because all he’s done in the past is abuse it. Like when he got his wife-beating friend out of jail early against a judge’s orders. And when he repeatedly violated the Hatch Act by campaigning for AG while he was serving as Public Safety Commissioner. And when he served as a character witness for an alleged child molestor. I could go on, but do you really want to hear more about this guy?

If all this is true he would still be a welcome replacement for hood. If the (Rs)can pick up nine House seats and replace hood with Simpson, everything else will work out.
